I paced her room gathering my words before I sat beside her on the edge of the bed, my mind rushing like a river but my mouth as still a boulder.
"I'm leaving tonight, and I'm not going to come back this time."
She gasped softly, reaching out to put her hand on mine, "Why is that? What have I done?"
I shook her off, moving further away from her, "It is not about what you are doing, it's about what you haven't done. What you won't do."
A puzzled expression took over her features, "What are you talking about?"
I growled, "I'm talking about your inability to let us be known to the republic."
She nodded understanding my anger now," I will one day, but that day is not here. You want something I can't give you right now."
"I was told those exact words a year ago. You said the same dammed thing and that glorious 'one day' I crave never comes!" Sighing I stood from the bed crouching in front of her, gripping one of her small hands, "I can't take this anymore, Alexandria. I've fallen in love and you just want me for my body, an-and I've let you have it anytime you want just to be close to you. Just to feel your touch. I'm better than this, I deserve better than this and I want more than this."
"Euphemia, I want to give you more, I want to be more than what you want. Please just give me time." She cupped my cheeks, looking at me with hopeful eyes.
I looked away, swallowing hard, "Time." I repeated the word.Tasting it. Hating it, "Time is my ally and my enemy. I've spent so much time searching. So much time not feeling. Then one day I see your face and time stops and my heart starts. It beats for you, a mortal. I can't spend my time waiting for yours to run out when I can't even officially call you mine. Time is not the option today, Alex."
"It is forbidden. Especially with you, a demon. A woman. The counsel will not accept such a blasphemous act." She said softly.
"You overrule the counsel."
"But my citizens can overthrow me. I love you but this Kingdom has been in my family for generations."
"And it will be for many more if you allow me the honour of making you my queen." She sucked in a sharp breath at my words, "I cannot marry you! How will I bear children, Euphemia?"
"I have two daughters and a son and have never been with a man a day in my life."
"That is black magic!"
"You've no idea what you speak of, Alex. I grow tired of bickering. I'm finished here.I'm finished with you." I spun on my heel heading for the door before she could see my tears.
My love for the girl made this so difficult but I had to do what is best for me. I spent so long trying to get what I wanted from something that could never be.
Alexandria called after me, her angelic voice thick with sorrow, "Take a break if that is what you need. But do come back soon."
"When I leave through this door, I will not look back. I will never come back. This is the last time you'll ever seen me again. Goodbye, Alexandria."
I turned the knob, opening the door slowly, "I'll always love you."
"Wait!" I sighed but froze in my place as I heard her soft footsteps come closer to me. She hugged my waist, reasting her head on the back of my shoulder. "My heart is yours, Euphemia. I don't think I could live without you."
"Do you love me? I whispered, turning in her arms, pulling them around my neck to place my hands on her hips, "More than there are stars in the sky."
"I want to let the world know that I'm in love with you."
"I'd tell them myself if that's what it takes to keep you. Just not now."
"Time right?"
I leaned down, closing the half foot gap between us to kiss her lips softly. Alex stood on her toes, knotting her fingers into my hair.
With the speed only a demon could posses I had her laid onto the bed, hovering above her, in seconds.
I dug my nails into her sides, kissing her neck, wanting more of her.
Alexandria wrapped her legs around my waist, groaning and arching her back into my body.
I removed her hands from my hair and pinned them to the bed, looking down into her eyes.
"You have all the time in the fucking world, Alexandria."
Placing one last kiss on her lips I stood and walked from the room with inhuman speed.
"Euphemia! Don't do this to us." Her voice broke down into a series of sobs that echoed down the corridor.
Each time I heard her call my name, I was more tempted to turn back and wipe her tears. "Euphemia, please. I love you."
I sighed, stopping to look over my shoulder.
Alexandria had tears streaming down her face, body shuddering as she stepped closer to me.
I shook my head at her and started to walk away again.
I whispered, not even sure if she could hear me,"Theres a time for everything. And when the time comes I'll come back to you."
