A knock on Cloud’s door during a harsh thunderstorm creates a rift in the repetitive noises of the rain hitting the ground, occasionally mixed with thunder.

It was 11PM. There was no reason for anyone to be knocking on his apartment door this late.

He sighs, opening the door to Y/N. His brows raise from the slight suprise.

“Y/N?” He mumbled, his voice horse from sleep, not that his voice showed emotion any other time.

"It's raining." Y/N smiled her hair and clothes soaked

“Good observation.” Cloud says, holding the door open with his shoulder. He’s surprised she’s over here this late, in this rain. “Come in.”

She shook her head. "I wanted to say good bye."

“You came here at 11PM in the rain, just to say goodbye?” Cloud shakes his head, and looks at her. She was soaking wet.

“You’re coming in.”

Y/N shook her head again. "I'm not... Goodbye Cloud. Hope to see you again. Maybe in another life." She started walking away a soft smile on her face.

“Wait! Damn it, wait!” Cloud yelled, gripping her arm to keep her from leaving, even if it seemed odd, the rain, the time, it all seemed so surreal..

"Cloud...." Y/n's voice echoes "Cloud... Let go..." It echoes again, filling the space... The rain stopped "Cloud!" Her loud voice came as Cloud opened his eyes

His eyes shoot open from his sleep, looking over to his nightstand alarm clock.

11:30PM

He groans as he rolls over, putting his arm over his eyes. "Damn night terrors." He murmurs

“Dammit, can’t even sleep without that stupid dream haunting me... every... damn... Night...” He mumbles to himself, rubbing his eyes, as he throws the covers off his bed.

Y/N's laughed echoes in his house

He groans, as he walks over to his small bathroom. The memories, the laughter, it all comes back, every detail, every moment. It’s a never ending loop and he’s always back at square one.

“Shut up..” he mumbled to himself again.

"Do you miss me?" Y/N's voice came from the shadows

“God damn it…” he muttered, as he splashed water on his face, and scrubbed his hand through his messy hair.

“Yes…” he simply said, as he stood, looking at his reflection in the mirror. He looked so exhausted, and the bags under his eyes showed how little sleep he was getting.

"It's raining.... Just like that night..." Her laugh echoed around the bathroom

“I know.” He sighed, leaning on the sink as he glanced at the window in his small bathroom. He stares back for a moment.

“I can’t sleep… whenever I do.. it’s just that same damn memory.”

Her shadow appeared in the mirror except only half of your face could be seen... Eyes covered by darkness  "Cloud... Why didn't you save me?" Her voice bounced off the walls.

He jolts, and steps back from the mirror, staring at the sight, before rubbing his eyes and blinking a few times.

“Did I see..” he mumbled, before looking back into the bathroom mirror. Cloud couldn’t believe his mind was playing these cruel tricks on him.

Shaking his head, he rubbed his eyes again, this time a bit more forcibly.

“You’re not there.” He said, as he leaned against the sink again. “You’re not there.”

Y/N's giggles filled the house as her shadow disappeared from the mirror.

“I’m going nuts…” he muttered to himself, before sighing and looking back into the mirror.

With a tired look, his lips were pressed together. He rubbed his eyes again, before speaking to an empty room.

“Shut the hell up…. Shut up!” He yelled.

"Cloud." A cold hand touched his shoulder but there was nothing there when he turned around...

He jolts, feeling the sudden cold. The goosebumps on his skin were undeniable.

He looks all around him, seeing no one, but still feels like he’s being watched. He looks at the bathroom door, and he could’ve sworn he heard a voice whisper to him.

“Cloud…” a faint giggle followed by a laugh echoed off the walls.

"You didn't save me... You left me to die..."

“Shut up…” he murmured, but the thought lingered in his head.

“It wasn’t my fault, I couldn’t have stopped it, I…” He said, whispering back the same words he heard her speak every night.

The sound of rain hitting the windows and the wind howling was suddenly replaced by a silence, as if the weather stopped.

"You let go... Cloud... I was in reach... But you let go..." A cold gust of wind went past him.

“I couldn’t…” he whispered, shivering, but the more he said it, the more it didn’t seem true.

“I should’ve grabbed harder…” his mind raced with the thought that maybe there was more he could have done to stop this, to save her, but he didn’t.

“I…” he trailed off, as he felt the same cold touch again, but this time, it stayed on his shoulder.

She appeared in front of him "Then why didn't you?"

He freezes, and stares.

Her form was.. more vivid than she usually was, she was in clear sight, her form.. solid, like she was real and standing in front of him.

He couldn’t believe his eyes, this wasn’t real. It had to be a trick of his mind. But the cold grip on his shoulder, was all too real..

The silence of the room, the stopped rain, even the chill in the air added to the surreal state of the situation.

"Happy to see me?" Y/N hummed

“Yes…” he murmured, as the cold grip on his shoulder, slowly moved up his neck, up towards his chin, as if it was trying to caress his neck and lift his head, as if trying to make eye contact.

That silence filled the room, that cold touch, even the stopped rain and silent winds. But there was something about that touch.. that made his heart and mind race, and the more he wanted to believe she was real, but the more he wanted to believe it was just his mind playing tricks on him.

"You're not here..." He said pushing her hand away

"Awe... And this time I thought I had tricked you." Y/N sniggered, her laugh fading into the shadows as her body did

“You’re not real.” He whispered to himself, as he looked around for her form. The touch.. the laugh, it all felt so real.

“You. Are. Not. Real.” He said to himself as he tried to make himself believe it.

But the more he did, he could feel a small part of himself, begging for this to be real. Wanting her to be real...

Everything went dark

He looks around the room, expecting to see her form again, still hearing her voice echo off the walls.

“Come back… please come back…” he said softly, as he rubbed his eyes again, hoping when he next opens them, he’d see her again.

He opened his eyes dim light shining in from his curtains, just another nightmare...

Cloud groans as he sits up in bed, rubbing his eyes. His mind was racing, from the dream he just witnessed. The vividness of her appeared, the cold touch, and even the stopped rain and silence he felt around him.

He looks at his alarm clock, 3:37AM.

Another nightmare.
