Y/n sat on the hard ground of the cell. It was connected with the cell of a family, Bayard's family. His wife and pups were sitting in the cold cell with nothing but a small stack of hay with a torn blanket thrown over.In some effort to make them somewhat better, she offered her blanket to them.
It wasn't like she was going to need it. Her execution was set for the morning. Bielle, Bayard's wife, paced around in the cell while her pups shivered under the thin blanket.
Y/n had a hand in the other cell as she comforted one of the then-crying pups. Her fingers gently caressed its head.
She froze hearing the sounds of armored steps coming down to the prisoners. Of course, she knew who it was.
"Hatter!"
No response. She refused to look up at the guards who stood behind the Knave. She heard Hatter gasp out a sharp breath as a guard prodded him with their weapon.
"He's 'round the bend." One of them reported back to the Knave.
The Knave pulled his glove back further while staring at the man. Hatter was on the ground, his head hanging as he was spoken to.
"Pity. It's a bore to behead a madman. No weeping, no begging..." Knave taunted him, trying to get some type of reaction out.
Bielle pressed her paws against the cell. "Why are you keeping us here? We've done nothing wrong!" She barked out angrily.
Knave slowly turned his head and stared at her. "Blame your husband. He left you here to rot." His head got closer to taunt her further, feeling some satisfaction in her pleading.
"You lie!" Bielle lept her head forward and bared her teeth with a snarl. Knave jumped back in shock before Hatter sprung up and wrapped his arms around his neck.
The knights tried to pry Hatter's arms off, but he was in such a maddened state that he wasn't himself. Just a hallowed version of himself.
Y/n made her way to the end of her cell, her hands clutching the bars. "Tarrant!" She called out, her voice booming due to the echo in the dungeon.
Hatter froze, his eyes glancing over to her. She looked terrified of what he was doing. She looked terrified of him.
He released Knave from his grasp while staggering back. Hatter didn't like the look of fear in her eyes. It was a sight that he now feared. Knave grazed a hand over his neck as he gasped for some air.
"Your head comes off at dawn! And that one too!" He pointed right at Mally who was hung up in a bird cage.
Hatter grinned, some confidence coming back to him.
"Oh, come come. It's such a small insignificant little head. Hardly seems worth the effort. Why don't you let her go? I'll give you an entertaining execution. I'll beg. I'll grovel. Weep, etcetera." He rambled his words as Knave made a face at him.
"Down with Bloody Big Head!" Mally ruined some of her chance of freedom by throwing her hatpin into the Knave's shoulder. He gasped in pain before pulling it out with a forced smile.
"Have a pleasant night." He turned away from the small group before pausing at Y/n's cell. His gaze looked at her up and down.
She was now at her normal size after it was concluded that someone had given her upelkuchen.
The now smaller girl stepped back as Knave opened her cell. It was no use trying to attack or fight him since she was chained by one leg.
The chains creaked as she stepped away from him, but he grabbed her arms and leaned down to her ear.
