Hearing the alarm clock being the first thing to wake up, really wasn't on my list on how to have a good, simple fucking day.
Of course, everything sucks. Out of nowhere, my boss retired, and had decided to give the company up to his nephew. I have no idea who this guy is, but since my last boss was a major dickhead who only cared about himself and made sure I got most of his work as his personal secretary, I assume his nephew's going to be a major thorn up my ass as well, just to be a bit petty.
I eventually drag myself out of bed, after ten minutes, and change into my work attire. A black v-neck business shirt and a black tight-fitted skirt that sat just above the knees. I wore some navy blue heels with the combo and clicked my way through my small house to make myself a shitty cup of coffee.
While I wait for the kettle to boil, I'm applying my makeup in the bathroom. I adjust my earrings and fix up my lip gloss as I brush the knots out of my hair completely.
Once I hear the annoying ding! Of the kettle, I step out of the bathroom and begin making my coffee. It barely takes me a minute.
"Stupid fucking cheap coffee."
I whisper harshly as I sip the disgusting concoction I make for myself to get up properly of a morning. I have time to leave early before work and get myself a coffee at the cafe across the road from my workplace, but do I exactly want to waste any money?
The answer is yes, because I really want some nice coffee.
Once I grab my keys, wallet and phone and put them in my purse I am straight out the door.
It's a 20 minute drive to my work, so I park in the car park and then walk across the road to that delicious cafe. Thank god it was small, and everything there wasn't over-the-top expensive like other places.
"Ah, Anastasia! Been a while, hasn't it?"
A voice sang from the cash register.
"Hello, Dane. Yes, it has."
Dane Burman attended the same high school as I did, he was in the grade above but he was rather friendly to me no matter the day of the week. We're sort of acquainted, in a way, but I wouldn't call us friends exactly.
"Same per usual?"
He asked with a smile, I return it in small as I nod.
"Yes, please."
"Coming right up."
He says as I hand him the exact change, with a small murmur of thanks.
As I wait for my coffee, he makes small talk as the machine heats up the milk.
"So, how've you been?"
"Alright, I suppose."
I lie through my teeth. If I were to be honest, I'd tell him all about how I have no fucking life simply because I overwork only to be underpaid and have to attend this shitty experience and of a job just to put a roof over my head. I didn't need to tell Dane that, though, he's not in my personal bubble to swear to know that information. No offense to him of course, but it's just simply the truth.
"Just alright? So, nothing interesting?"
I hear Dane press, and it takes every bone in my body to not tell him to just fuck off.
"Yep."
I stick to simple replies, so that I can bite my tongue and not get all snappy before I have to attend work.
Dane gives me a weird glance as he hands me my coffee, and I simply fake a smile, taking the coffee and murmuring a quiet thanks again before turning to leave.
