Chapter Three
So, I don't know how I feel about Andy and Meredith dating anymore. I really don't. So now I'm kind of stuck on what to do. Damnit guys, I'm sorry.
Meredith huffs, not knowing where Andy is going with this, and she begins to lose her patience. "Where?"
Andy's smirk turned into a smile, "To take you to dinner."
Meredith, too stunned to answer, had her jaw drop in shock. "I- Uh..."
"Oh wow. Did I make THE Meredith Grey speechless?" Andy teased, a smirk on her face.
Meredith sent Andy a small glare. "No. No, you did not."
Andy smirked. "Seriously though. Do you mind if we go for dinner? We keep talking about getting drinks, but we never have. You pretty much only see me when I'm injured." Andy told her. "I want to do something for you for always taking care of me, Meredith. Dinner is the least I can do."
Meredith smiled, grabbed one of Andy's hands and nodded her head. "Okay. I'd love to go to dinner with you, Andy."
Andy smiled in return and leaned back into the pillow, a grimace on her face. Meredith noticed and reached up for Andy's IV, pumping more pain meds through it. "Try and get some sleep, Herrera. You're probably exhausted from all you did at the ball."
Andy wanted to fight her. She wanted to tell Meredith that she wasn't tired, but she was exhausted. All the running around she had to do was exhausting. From dealing with the fire in the walls to listening to Farris' bullshit about Ross and then running into the ballroom, trying to warn people but failing. If only I was faster. Andy thought to herself. She knew it wasn't her fault. She knew no one could've predicted that the floor was going to collapse but she just wished that no one was injured. Oh god. Jack.
"Meredith," Meredith looked at Andy "Is Jack okay? I know he hit his head and wasn't telling anyone."
Meredith gave Andy a gentle smile and squeezed Andy's hand. "He's okay, Andy. It's just a concussion and had been ordered to take time off work since this is the second time he's hit his head in a short amount of time, and we want to be careful."
Andy nodded and closed her eyes, but she couldn't sleep. All she could see was Dixon dying at the bottom of the hole. How she wasn't fast enough. How she failed to keep everyone safe during her first, non-official, shift as captain. Meredith saw Andy's furrowed eyebrows and ran a hand over Andy's hair, hoping to calm her some. She was thankful as she watched her relax and start to drift off. She hoped that Andy would get through the night, nightmare free even though she herself didn't know how she would handle what Andy went through.
Meredith was sitting in the chair for the last couple of hours, still holding Andy's hand when Amelia walked in.
"Aw look at you." Amelia joked seeing how Meredith was holding Andy's hand and knowing how Meredith thought she might feel about Andy but needing to know her better. "How's she doing?" she asked, knowing how scared Meredith was when she walked into the ER and saw Andy all bloody.
Meredith sighed and put a stray hair behind Andy's ear. "She seems okay." Meredith looks at Amelia. "You sure it's just a minor head wound and not a concussion?" Amelia nodded.
"I'm sure, Mer. She isn't showing any signs of concussion symptoms. We'll keep her for another day just to be careful, but I promise, I would know if it's anything serious. Okay?"
Meredith nodded and gave Amelia a small, grateful, smile. "Thanks, Ams."
"I gotta get going but I'll be around later to check in." Amelia looked at the monitor's Andy was connected and down at the chart she held for Andy in her hand. "Did you give her any more pain meds?" Amelia asked, noticing the slight BPM increase. Amelia watched Meredith nod. "Okay, well no more for a while, okay?" Meredith nodded again and Amelia put the chart back down on the end of the bed and walked out of the room.
Meredith turned back to look at Andy when Amelia closed the door. "I'm so fucking thankful that you're okay, Herrera."
"I'm thankful that I'm okay too, Mer," Andy told her, voice cracking from the sleep she just awoke from. She opened her eyes and turned to look at Meredith and smiled when she felt her hand in hers. She looked up at Meredith and smirked. "Have you been holding my hand this whole time?"
"I had nothing better to do," Meredith told her, not caring that Andy knew she was sitting by her bedside for hours. "My shift is over, and I wanted to talk to you about something I wanted to earlier but then you kind of stunned me with the dinner invitation."
Andy looked at her with confusion and concern. "What's going on, Mer?"
"I just wanted to tell you that I'm grateful to have you in my life and I really want us to start hanging out more."
Andy furrows her eyebrows. "Isn't that what I already brought up when I asked you to dinner myself."
"Andy, I need to know what this is. Is it just a friendship dinner or is it going to end up turning into something more?"
Guys, let me know if I should still have them together or not.
