We all know that for reproduction you need two opposing genders but we also know that gender isn't the main concern in romance, many pokemon have expressed homosexual behavior (those two boy eiscue are ADORABLE btw)
And if the only reason attract works is because of the difference in XY and XX chromosomes then why doesn't it work on the same gender?

Kiawe slowly flies down to a little cave near wella volcano with ash holding onto him tightly, him being unusually quiet.
"Hey Ash, we're here"
Kiawe says as Charizard lands softly
"Mkay"
Ash said quietly
They both get off and Kiawe puts Charizard in his Pokeball.
They both walk into the cave and pop out to see a beautiful lake with rainbow color throughout the water, they both sit down and Kiawe looks at Ash who looks uncharacteristically downcast which makes the Taller one concerned
"I'm sorry"
The raven says which makes Kiawe snap out of his concerns and look at the shorter
"Why?"
"I made you come get me even though you were taking a day off, and you're probably annoyed with me, it was selfish of me to annoy and bother you, I'm sorry"
Ash said as he looks at Kiawe with sad eyes, as if he is prepared for him to start yelling or something of the sort
"... Ash you never made me annoyed and you're not bothering me, I wanted you here.
And it's not selfish at all"
Kiawe said as he put his hand on the others in an attempt to comfort the latter
"Are you sure?...
"Very"
Before Kiawe could react before he knew it Ash's arms were around him, he stayed still for a moment before closing both his arms around him
They talked about feeling for a bit before Ash slowly fell asleep in his arms, Kiawe gave a closer look at him
Noticing the slight eye bags and his eyes slightly puffy and red
"what happened ash?"
