(Keefe's POV)
Something's definitely wrong with Foster.
When I told her I loved her, she didn't smile her real smile, and her eyes are still completely dull. All of the golden life in them has vanished. Maybe the Neverseen did something to her. But I need to get her to talk to me. Alone.
Right now, Sophie insisted on going home with her parents.
Like she wants to get away from me.
Or maybe she just misses her family. That's completely normal. Maybe I'm the one being weird.
But I don't know. Something doesn't feel right. It's like... Foster's personality is the same, but her instincts are different. She hasn't tripped on anything and we've walked over a ton of cracks in the sidewalk. I've been preparing myself to catch her every time, but it never happens like it usually does. Maybe she's super traumatized from being kidnapped or something...
"I'll see you tomorrow, Keefe." Sophie said with a small smile.
It still made my heart flutter, even though it feels wrong.
"Hey, um, Sophie? Can I ask you something?" I asked quietly.
"Sure."
"Did something... Did something happen? Because you're acting different." I mumbled. Foster stiffened, like she was... Nervous?
"Um... No, nothing happened. I'm completely fine." Foster said quietly. "Anyway, I gotta go. Love you." She kissed me on the cheek quickly before scrambling into her house and closing the door.
For once, my heart didn't flutter.
Because that wasn't the Sophie I knew.
She was completely different.
And I didn't love her anymore.

(Sophie's POV)
Oh no. Keefe caught on. He's gonna figure it out any moment.
Lady Gisela's gonna be so mad...
Wait... What if...?
The thought trailed off when I realized Lady Gisela had put something in my pocket, just in case. She had told me it was a love potion. That way, he would blindly trust and love me so the plan could work more easily. I pulled it out of my pocket and smirked at the label.
It said: Make anyone love you madly for an hour. You can live happily ever after!
Yes. The words were true. But I wasn't going to live happily ever after with Keefe. I was going to live happily ever after as Lady Gisela's assistant master.
"Alright, Keefe, I guess you're getting some cookies..." Sophie whispered.
"Sophie? Oh, you came home later than usual." Edaline noted. Sophie scrambled to put the bottle back in her pocket.
"Oh, yeah, sorry." Sophie muttered. "Um, I know it's late, but I promised to make Keefe some cookies, so I'm gonna get to work on that and then I'll go to bed, okay, mom?"
"Alright, honey. Don't stay up too late. I love you." Edaline whispered, hugging Sophie.
Sophie (the evil version of Sophie) had lost her parents, and just getting to hug Edaline made her get choked up.
Keefe existed in her perspective version, and he was her enemy, so when he hugged her she didn't feel anything. All she felt was more hate. But since her parents were gone in the evil perspective, she actually felt love bloom in her heart.
And that love activated a new voice in her mind.
It said: Sophie, you love Keefe with all of your heart. You can't do this to him. Turn back to the good guys. End this the way you want to end it. Nobody, especially on the Neverseen, should decide that for you. Please. Do it for him.
But the other voice jumped in, too: Sophie, those are lies! Keefe is your greatest enemy. Why should you love him after how much he's hurt you? You'll be able to rule over the world with Lady Gisela if you keep going. Think of how happy you'll be!
The voices fought back and forth until Sophie shut both of them out of her head. Her instincts were telling her to wait.
Wait until things settled down.
And then she would decide which voice to follow.
For now, she was just going to make the cookies. And then she would decide if she should pour the love potion inside.
That night, when she got into bed, she dreamt of being chased by Lady Gisela.
She was screaming, "How dare you betray me! I gave you everything!"
Sophie kept running through the dark forest, and then suddenly she tripped. Just as she braced for impact, strong arms wrapped around her.
She looked up and met Keefe's eyes. His warm smile made her heart melt, and Keefe defended her from his own mother. She was his top priority. That was all she ever wanted, and she had shoved it away with the evil voice of the Neverseen manipulating her.
She couldn't have been more proud and hopeful in that moment, silencing the negative voice completely. That voice didn't matter anymore. It didn't matter what perspective she had.
The next morning, when she woke up, she knew what she needed to do.
