I immediately quiet my steps and shuffled inside a bush. I was behind a deer and ready to pounce. As I lowered myself to the ground, I slowly inched towards the deer, walking carefully as to not startle it.
I launched myself onto its back bit into the back of its neck as hard as I could, before I could get it on its side, it started bucking to try and get me off. As my grip on it was loosening, I dug my claws into its shoulders and started leaning sideways to make it lose its balance.
As it fell onto its side, I quickly repositioned myself and bit into its lower neck, gripping it, to keep the deer from getting up and running. When it finally died, I let go and stared at it, completely proud of myself for bringing one down.
"This should 100 percent, make me pass the assessment." I thought to myself.
As I picked the deer by its neck, I started to drag it back towards camp. My jaw was starting to hurt but this kill was worth the pain.
As I made it into camp, my parents were sitting there waiting. My father's black coat was starting to whiten with age. His pride showing in his grin as he watched me deal the deer into camp. My mother watched me with judgemental eyes. Her lips pulled back into a sneer.
"You're the first one back," My mother stated as I sat the deer down in front of me.
"I'm aware." I replied back in monotone voice.
A growl was heard as she glared at me. "Don't get smart with me, runt. I'll kill you right here if I have to." She growled at me as she stood up.
"Woah," My father said, as he quickly stood between the two of us. "There's no need for you two to be arguing right now."
Just as he said that my sister trotted into camp. She was carrying two crows in her mouth and wild boar on her back. Her white fur covered in blood. As she sat her prey down, she looked over at me and my prey.
"Damn, Stormy." She said in shock. "You take this big bitch down yourself?"
"Yeah, it was pretty easy too." I replied. "That boar you got is pretty darn big too."
"Probably to you because of your size." She said in a mocking tone.
At the mention of my height, I immediately glared at her but I said nothing. Luckily soon after, my brother's dark gray pelt walked into camp. Carrying in his mouth, two sparrows, four crows, and a boar on his back.
As he trotted to sit beside Flame, he looked over the prey that both caught.
"Ha! Is that seriously the only things that you losers caught?" He then looked over to our parents. "Must be disappointing that you two's eldest can't catch better prey. Well, the runt can kind of be excused because of his height, but Flame? She could've done better." He finished with a smirk.
At the mention of her name Flame immediately snapped at him." Will you for once stop trying to get on our parents good side! The only one that actually likes you is Mother, and even then she gets tired of you at times!"
I snorted as I watched the two of them argue. My ears flicking as I laid down.
"Enough!" Our Father yelled.
"But she-"
"I don't care what she did! You're the one starting things!" My father's purple-ish eyes gleaming in the sun as he glared at Glade.
As Glade let out an angered growl he got up and stalked towards our father. "Are you actually choosing side? I'm the best hunter of this pack and you're just going to choose her side?" Glade's claws unsheathed and just as he was about to attack our father, our mother stopped him.
"Listen Glade, I understand that you're mad but you can't go attacking your father." She said as she walked towards him. "And besides, between you and me, you've already passed."
