When the sun had fully risen in the sky, the strange village lacked that ominous vibe it had in the time of dawn. Seeing the folk walk around and tend to their duties felt oddly comforting, but hey, anything was better than running from the authorities.
Jasper had decided, that after she'd get cleaned up, she'd try to acquaint herself with the townsfolk. The last time she had visited her safe house, or cottage in this instance, none of these villagers lived here. It was a very different time, that was for certain.
She observed her surroundings, taking in every detail. From the pathway beneath her feet carved out from the grass by carts and horses, to the bars on the windows of various homes. She wondered if a century from now, that bars on windows would become a normality.
Just then, Diablo walked up to her, patting her shoulder. "Seems like a lovely first day eh? I might like it here. Might like the attention too~" He said, his gaze falling upon two of the village girls, staring at him all morning.
He waved to them, and they instantly melted, giggling to themselves. Jasper rolled her eyes so hard they threatened to leave their sockets. "Why don't you think with your head, Diablo? We're here to stay away from trouble, not create it."
He barked out a laugh. "Oh Jasper! You need not to worry, I'm sure everything will be fine! Why not loosen up a bit? You were so much more fun last night when we were on the run."
Jasper sighed, "Our situation has become more perilous, it's not like I can keep up the charade of optimism forever." She sat down on a bench, her hands in her lap and her eyes staring at the ground.
Diablo remained standing. He cleared his throat. "You know...you look like you need some good food. Maybe some eggs, perhaps a beer?"
She couldn't help but chuckle. "Beer is not apart of a good breakfast, but thank you for the offer I guess."
Jasper and Diablo's relationship, while abnormal at times, was still strong. Their bond as siblings could never be broken.
Jasper looked up at him. "Thank you Diablo, for...for being here."
He playfully bowed. "The pleasure is mine" he smiled, before smacking her upside the head. "Now eat something today, you're getting skinny."
Jasper scoffed, holding her head as she stomped on his foot. Diablo laughed, as they continued to play fight each other. Until Jasper caught notice of Alexandria, who was sitting on a large rock in the distance. It looked as if she was scribbling in some book.
Jasper nudged Diablo, and he looked at her confused, before turning to view Alexandria. He whistled, "Didn't take her as the type to be an aspiring author. I bet you she's well read."
Jasper shrugged. "All I know is she carries around a big book, thicker than any bible I've seen."
"You've been near a bible?" Diablo asked in mock surprise.
Jasper resisted the urge to punch him. "All I know is that girl comes from some sort of wealthy past, but whenever I ask what happened or how she came to England, she refuses to say. It's terribly strange, isn't it? I mean I've never been the nosy type but..." she motioned towards the girl with her hands. "I'd feel awful if I were rehashing some sort of awful memory..."
Diablo shook his head. "She hasn't known you long enough I'm assuming." He put a hand on her shoulder. "Give her time, she'll warm up to you I am sure of it."
Jasper smiled, hugging Diablo. "This is why you're my brother."
"Yeah yeah alright whatever, I know I'm astounding." Diablo replied.
