Leafy's POV
~"Now what?", as the small unnamed object, whom I already forgot the name of, asked in a serene matter. I thought, and thought, Firey aside for a second, now needing a plan for this new haven we two discovered.
"Hmm, I mean... it always starts with exploring around, right?", I led, the object nodded, we both trenched over the moonlight terrain. It felt unreal, but it's the closest I can get to feeling like dream island is at the tip of my feet. I sniffed, continuing along the grassland of this island, not too many trees in this region, contributing to the open land.
"Seems barren, huh?", the little one said, I couldn't help but agree. Surely at daytime, it'll be as bright as tonight.
"Maybe we can build our base here! It's definitely noticeable if we place it over here!", I cheerfully announced, stomping the ground to indicate its relative area.
"O-our house?", they nervously repeated.
"Oh sorry... w-we can build our houses separately if you... want?", I asked.
"Actually- I won't mind sharing beds with you! It'll feel cozy!", they were fond of the idea, much to my surprise, but it did alleviated me with my kindness.
"O-oh! Okay- well shall we get started?", I hummed.
"Sure! I'll go get some lumber and you go explore, get whatever you find cool, I don't know...-", they said confidently, I'm supposed to be the one to command the little stress ball, but I guess this can slide.
"Sure-", I agreed. They wore a big, silly grin and waddled playfully on their stubby legs. Adorable, really. Following instructions, I skipped through the feverish haven's garden, curious about what surprises might emerge. You could call it... 'bliss at work'. Why not gather some rocks along the way, too?
A few caught my eye, so I picked them up, wanting to feel productive and have something to hold. Eventually, I reached the dense forest near the island's hill. A shiver ran down my spine. Dark, thick, and mysterious, the forest seemed to whisper both 'stay away' and 'come closer'. Naturally, I was drawn to the latter. I set my collected stones on the grass at the forest's edge, knowing this was going to be a risky venture. I can't recover anyway, Flower HAD to destroy all of the recovery centers for egotistical sake.
I took a step into the forest, the moonlight barely bouncing off the trees and shrubs at all, but the little object said to find anything interesting, and this area looks like a hotspot for interest, my guts say.
I crawled deeper inside, branches prickling at me from all sides. Scanning for anything that caught my eye, I mostly found more rocks and interesting leaves. But then... ruins? Out of the corner of my iris, I noticed some stone ruins. I took a closer look and saw gray stone ruins scattered all around me. So spooky, reminds me of my time at Yoyleland with all the abandoned structures around.
Eventually I found a small vase displayed at my legs, why is this here? I wouldn't know, but it gives me urges to take it. As irrationally as I was, I held the vase with my two hands and carefully carried it back to the forest's edge as speedily as possible. It's mine now! It shouldn't have been left unattended, maybe my kleptomania is acting again. I eventually returned, making sure to carry the stones I gathered earlier.
I made my way back to our base slowly but surely, gripping the vase tight like a possession, and I could already see something going on out in the field. I walked over closely to it, and saw the little object beside a campfire and a few cut lumber. "Oh! Hi!", I yelled. It kind of startled them, but they didn't react dramatically, which I definitely found nice. They're on their 37th level in my Niceness list now.
"Hey Leafy!", they waved back, taking notice. I let go of my 'souvenirs' info the ground and it gave them some looks.
"D-did you steal this from somewhere-?", they remarked concerned.
"Oh- no! I just found this vase and some cool looking rocks, could be seashells if you wish, while I was wandering around... no one was around!", I eagerly presented.
They looked at it and back at me with a dumb yet adorable smile. "Oh- eh, that's fine by me..".
I gestured around, "Oh by the way- please, call me Leafster! We've known for a bit now, eh?".
"Got it!", they smirked once more.
They gently opened their mouth again, "Well.. since this is a barren, uninhabited island, maybe we could keep the vase- I don't think anyone's going to notice...", they added. It sounded like foreshadowing, but I would've already told it if I was narrating this story, right?
"Ooh- sure. Oh and I also notice some progress on the house... when will we able to sleep in it?", glancing over onto the cozy sized hut.
"Just some decoration and roofing and it'll be finished!", they bragged, much to their own oblivion, I was more impressed.
"Well, we can work on the house tomorrow, some morning exercise?", I giggle warmly.
They giggle back, "Sure-! But where will we sleep?", the little ball said, I thought for a moment, and my tree lit on fire.
"How about here? On the grass? It's soft and... oh! We can sleep near the campfire, it'll be warm!", I said with such enthusiasm. They nodded in response, like we were babies with such innovative ideas. The feeling of a campfire beside me gave me warmness, it gave me feelings of refreshment, like whenever I'm next to... Firey.
My face instantly fell, overwhelmed by thoughts of that traitor again. They patted me on the shoulder, asking what was wrong. I let out a deep sigh and sat down next to the campfire we had started. They joined me. "It's nothing... just got reminded of Firey again...", I coughed.
"What made Firey reject you anyway-? I've heard you two were in a 'ferris wheel' feud, but what exactly...?", they felt confused and unanswered. I could only give back such a simple and straightforward answer.
"It's exactly that. They misunderstood me, thinking I was rejecting their gift, while I really was only trapped and about to get killed by the fricking lava waterfall!!", I felt like I was agitated. At least the little one patted beside me in comfort, I comfortably sighed.
"Let's just get a good rest... things will change in the morning, right?", they suggested, tapping the grass below and signalled as if we two should lay down. My mind just did what I thought he's saying, and I carefully rested on a laying position, not too close to the campfire in order to not possibly burn. They lay beside me as we both gazed up at the deep purple night sky. It was so bright, with twinkling stars and constellations clearly visible. Especially the Big Dipper, which is missing a star... thanks to a traitorous bubble and a kind and precious ice cube...
But not to reminisce about the past, we just continued looking at the sky, occasionally pointing to the sky and trying to mark down a constellation name. The view of the summit of Yoyle Mountain is so ominous too. It was fun, and even more fun when it was just us two together. It's like something special brewing.
But tomorrow we'll be working on finishing the house, so we'll need a good night's rest and a hearty meal. We don't know how long we can last on this island. Heavy thoughts weighed more and more on my conscience as I tried to focus on the present. My eyes eventually started to close on their own, and within moments, I felt myself slipping into a dream. I believe I also imagine the little one also settling down beside me, the warm heated grass keeping us comfortable as we drifted into a peaceful sleep.
