"Don't look back,
You're not going that way."
Ava's Point of View

Moving day.

Most people enjoy moving, as if they do it all the time. They like the sense of adventure and the change in scenery. Trust me, I like adventure and I've always wanted to venture out of our home in Connecticut, but leaving behind all your friends and family is hard.

Especially moving at the end of the summer before your senior year.

My dad's job got transferred out to California, forcing us all to pack up our belongings and move to the other side of the country. I tried to convince them to let me stay with one of my best friends, Kiera, but they wouldn't have it. My parents told me we were leaving as a family. As in we were all staying together, well except for one of us Brooks.

One of my older siblings got to stay, considering she's engaged and has a job as a clothing designer over in New York City, she wasn't required in this move.

But my eldest brother, the oldest of us all, is still living at home. So he is accompanying us on the move.

I swept my long, wavy, brown hair over my shoulder. I blew my bangs out of my eyes while grabbing onto a box labeled; 'PICTURES'. I sighed carrying the box indoors. I placed it on the already overflowingly packed dining room table.

My mom always wanted a dining room, now she's got one.

"Ava, honey." My mom asked, heading towards the direction of what I think is the kitchen with a box in her hands. "Why don't you go upstairs and find a room. There's 4 regular bedrooms of your choice. But you might want to get the good one before your sister steals it." She winked at me, heading through the door.

I quickly rushed up the stairs, only the thought of getting the best room on my mind.

I opened up the first door on the right. I had snuck onto my mom's laptop in search of this house, and I found that the master bedroom, along with one of the normal bedrooms has a balcony.

And I want that room.

Being unsatisfied that the first room I checked wasn't the one with the balcony, I kept looking. Finally, the door at the end of the hallway was it.

The room was fairly decent in size with a pair of glass, double doors leading out onto the balcony. There's was already a bed and dresser in the room, just like all the others I checked. The room was a baby blue. The bed was up on a ledge with an area for a workspace, for my desk and laptop. Many shelves were imbedded into the structure and there was a small closet over by the actual door.

I opened the double doors, taking a step onto my balcony. I had the view of my backyard, there was a treehouse over in a big oak tree near our swimming pool, and a trampoline sat in the corner of the white picket fence surrounding our area.

"Awe man." My 13 year old brother, Max, whined. "You got the cool room."

I laughed. "Yeah, well I got to it first."

"That's no fair." He crossed his arms, joining me on the balcony. "At least we've got a pool. I heard, it gets really hot in California."

"Yeah, I heard that too. I just hope this place is really what everyone tells it to be."

"I'm just excited about the beach that's like 20 minutes away."

I laughed throwing an arm around my brother's shoulder. "Me too."

"So," My dad began, placing his fork down on his half eaten plate. He wiped his mouth with his napkin before he continued. "How are you guys liking the new house?"
