"Tommy, stop running around." I yelled at my little brother, who ran around the house with his toy figurine in hand and making sounds and what not. Dealing with him was a nightmare kind of, but this was my little brother, it's not as if I had a choice. After my parents died in the car accident that took place two years ago, he was now my responsibility. School and work was hectic because I still had to find ways to manage him, but my grandparents didn't mind keeping watch of him while I was out sometimes. He was only six years old, and I was seventeen, which means being the older sibling I had to look out for him until he eventually stepped foot out into the real world, getting a job, getting his own house and whatever he decided to do entering that teen stage. I was totally overthinking at times though, as I was sometimes worried how I was going to get my bills paid on time or if I was gonna be able to afford the needs for Tommy, as the needs for me was irrelevant.

Sitting on my couch, and opening the mail I received from my mailbox, I then heard my door bell ring. I wasn't expecting any company at the moment, but the constant ringing of the doorbell told me that someone was persistent.

Sighing and throwing the torn mail papers onto the table, I stood up from the couch, walking over to the door.

On my way to it, I stepped on a Lego. Wincing in pain, I grabbed it off the floor and looked at Tommy who was on the floor building his legos. "Tommy, I told you about your toys, keep them off the floor or I'm throwing them away!" I sternly yelled to Tommy. "Sorry." He responded, before continuing to build his legos.

Pushing my self up against the door for balance, i stood on the tips of my toes to look through the peephole of the door, seeing Anna and Regina laughing and giggling behind it. They are my friends, annoying and stuff but they're cool. Same age as me, they're just more focused on their looks and stuff, total opposites from me.

Opening the door, they both rushed in, walking past me and into the living room. "Uhm... whatever." I just shrugged, shutting and locking the door behind them.

"What's all this?" Regina asked, sitting on the couch and looking through the torn papers of mail, grabbing them.

"Nothing." I sighed out, snatching them away from her before throwing them away into the trash bin. It was nothing important on the mail, just some things about voting for the president and whatever, which I wasn't gonna partake in anyways, plus I couldn't. Regina just rolled her eyes, leaning back on the couch. "Someone's in her mood." She said, earning a little laugh from Anna. "Shush." I glared at her, sitting down beside them.

"What's up with you and Daniel?" Regina suddenly asked me asked me, the sudden change in topic making my body tense up. Daniel was my ex-boyfriend, a jock and athletic, a guy every girl dreamed to have or whatever. Good with looks, not with personality. He was such an ass and a jerk, I couldn't deal with him any longer than I forced myself to. All he cared about was football, I mean, which was okay - but he had a whole girlfriend, which he didn't even care or pay attention to. But it was whatever, I was the least of his worries, the words he said to me that pushed me further to end the relationship with him.

"Nothing." I responded back, grabbing my cigarette box off the table and taking a cigarette out of it.

"You only smoke when stressed Kara, and that situation is stressing you out." Anna said.

"We broke up, that's all you guys should know." I annoyingly said, hating how they were forcing answers out of me about the whole topic. I lit the cigarette, setting the lighter back down before smoking from the stick.
