That Was Yesterday

“You ready yet Anemone?” asks a very frantic Tyler. I role my eyes as I slip on my one size to big hoodie with our high schools name sprawled across the left arm. I tug at my teal tank top, which is underneath my hoodie now. My distressed shorts give my outfit a sort of stylish look that says ‘cute but not interested’.

“Hold your horses Ty, I’m almost done!” I shoot back when he stops complaining. Does that boy ever quite up? Now I know we seem like two bickering siblings but were not. Ty and I are just so close that we seem like family.

Tyler and I look nothing alike, not to mention our last names are completely different. My last name is Levi and his is Dawson. Tyler has dark black hair that is always cut in some stylish way, while his skin is almost always tanned. He is tall, handsome, and very muscular because he plays for our schools football team. And no, he is not the quarterback. He has beautiful blue eyes that are as clear and crisp as a beautiful pond.

I on the other hand have long blond hair that flows past my shoulders, and down to my mid back. Gold streaks run throughout my hair, and yes they are natural. I am fairly tanned myself, but I am short and not very muscular. I don’t really do sports, but I run in my free time. I am always skinnier than I would like. I hate being stick thin; I eat like a pig sometimes because I want to put some meat on my bones. But it always goes right into my curves. I have light brown eyes that I honestly have never been fond of.

Oh, and in case you didn’t catch on yet, my name is Anemone. But everyone calls me Mone for short.

“Mone! Gosh! Get out of your room already!” Ty screams, banging on my door with his hands bunched into fists.

“I need to put on my makeup!” I scream back, reaching for my tube of Loreal Lash Blast mascara. I apply a light coat to both of my eyes before dabbing on some teal eye shadow to help bring out my brown eyes. I apply some natural colour lip-gloss, and step back to survey myself in the mirror.

I here some clinking, and realize Ty is doing something to my door. At that exact moment my door leans forward and crashes to the ground, sending me scrambling onto my bed while screeching like a dying goat.

“Are you ready now?” Ty asks a sly grin smeared across his face. He twirls a screwdriver around in his hand, while tossing a handful of screws up and down in his hand.

I put my hands on my hips and try to look as serious as possible. “Not until you put my door back. Then I will be ready”. Ty’s face drains of his grin and he looks about ready to complain again. “My door is like a blouse. If its not done up I am not leaving this room” I say with a stomp of my foot to prove to him just how serious I am being.

A slow smile spread back across his face and I know he is going to do something stupid. He walks up to me, picks me up by the waist, and throws me over his shoulder. I am in complete shock by his move that I don’t start kicking and screaming until were halfway down the stairs.

“Help! A guy who took my door off its hinges is kidnapping me! Help! Call the police!” I shriek, my small fists banging against his back. I wish I could kick him but he is holding my feet to his chest. If I could kick him I could do some real damage.

My parents who are sitting in the living room barely acknowledge us, as this is very usual for this household. My mom his reading a romance novel while my father is reading the comic section in the local newspaper.

“Hey Mr. and Mrs. L! Mone and I are just going down to the party at the dock!” Ty says in a playful voice. “Have fun” my dad mumbles not even glancing up from his comic. My mom actually looks up and smiles. “Be safe, and remember to not go home with someone who has had something to drink. I trust you two,” she says before going back to her book.

“Mom” I say seriously, which is hard to do considering I am seventeen and hanging over the back of my next door neighbour, best friend, and the hottest guy at our high school. I would never look at him that way, but the popular girls are always trying to come up with ways to flirt with him. “Call the cops,” I say before Ty carries me out of the house.

I can barely hear my mom finish the laughing fit she goes into after I asked her to call the cops. Did you notice how my mom and dad are not even surprised with Tyler’s actions? Well that’s because we have been best friends since we were babies. We are after all only one day apart…. And yes he is older than me.

Its funny because we have sleepovers a lot, and my parents don’t even flinch when Tyler and I go up to my room because they know that we would never go any farther than kissing each other on the forehead or cheek. But that’s just because we are best friends, and only best friends.

He flings me into the passenger seat of his car, and tosses me a pare of flip-flops. “Put these on and keep your mouth shut” Ty says seriously. He takes out a banana from inside his coat before saying “or I will have to use this”. I burst out laughing and end up crying from how funny he made a simple sentence seem.

He starts up his car and before we know it we were driving towards the dock. The dock is actually just that. A dock surrounded by lots of cool places like and arcade, a pizza place, and a fishing dock. Every month our school rents out the dock and buys us pizza and soda. There are no chaperones but we are all really responsible considering none of us get below a C+ average.

We park in an empty space, and I hop out with ninja quick reflexes. “Now I am free!” I cry before dashing towards a group of my friends.

Tyler quickly jumps out and comes chasing after me. Despite that he plays football, I am still a lot faster than him thanks to my running hobby. He comes up behind me and grabs me by the waist. I let out a small shriek before kicking him in the leg.

“Owe! Gosh Mone, why do you have to be so violent!” Cries Ty as he grabs his leg and begins hopping around on one foot.

“You look like a bunny with only one leg,” I say, hoping he takes it as a compliment. He turns to look at me in all seriousness before saying, “Moo”. I burst out laughing, clutching onto my other hysterical friends for support.

A good friend of mine named Lan shakes me off when I clutch onto her arm. Lan is a beautiful Chinese girl with the prettiest black hair and the nicest skin. When Lan shakes me off I go to my friend Daniel who had red hair and freckles spread out around his face. He uses me for support and almost sends me tumbling, which causes us to laugh even harder. I crawl towards a girl name Suzy who has short brown hair but instead of using her for support I try to use her has a ladder. She tugs at her jeans to keep them up but instead offers me a hand, which I gladly accept.

When our humour dies down we all collapse into some lawn chairs that Daniel set up earlier. Another friend of mine who has highlighted brown hair and always looks like he is wearing his pants to low named Sam comes over, asking why we were all laughing un controllably.

Tyler gives a muffled reply as he holds ice cubes to his bruised leg, and I feel kind of sorry. Kind off because he un attached my door, kidnapped me, and threw me into his car. He deserved much worse than an old kick in the leg.

I look around my laughing group of friends who are all so happy. Everyone is joking and laughing, not a care in the world. Pizza is being devoured and drinks are being chugged. I take a sip off my tart lemonade, the flavour filling my mouth. I love my life, and I love days like today. But as well all know, all good things come to an end. And even though today was great, tomorrow I will look back on it and say “that was yesterday”.
