Cutlery clanks all around Tallulah as she pulled her pistachio green shawl over her bare shoulders strapped in a clam white cocktail dress. Layered chiffon ruffles cascaded around her calves as she tugged on it tighter with her palm to stop the passing draft of the restaurant from making small, blonde hairs on her forearms stick up.
Again, watching the swaying of her own arm hair, she brought a fork to her blushed lips, a spagetto wrapped around it's teeth. She was going to finish this meal tonight. She'd done it before right? That she had but the swanky, couple oriented environment of the Olive Garden was a first for her to sit alone at.
But why is a tall, relatively attractive 24 year old with a faraway complexion eating alone in the booth of such a nice diner anyway?
Possibly even preventing some younger couple from celebrating their anniversary at the packed destination- not that she cared at all. This was for her. And to acknowledge an unasked question with an unasked for answer; ever since she'd settled the terms of her employment as an executive creative director of her workplace (who's parfum she needlessly spritzed in the nape of her neck and behind pearl studded earlobes), she's been making it a point to take herself out on more dates and granted the idea does seem lonely and Tallulah would think so too if she was just a little more drunk...but not everyone goes home to steamed sheets and a sweetheart to dream about.
She didn't want that either, neither her nor her untucked sheets and dreamless nights. On the contrary, by the time the 8 next to her one turned into a 9- Tallulah's desire to truly be free in the slums of a miserable college experience reached new highs. Her desire to pull away from friends who she'd known since she was gripping the rods of a cradle and who were now a mere dorm block away heightened with it. Having lived in the same picket fence bordered town her whole life with cycling buddies now forcibly turned peers- the desperation to detach and not grieve for any one started swirling in her soul like the last dregs on water in the drain of a bathtub.
