Once upon a time, in a faraway land called Chesstopia, there was a chess board. Well, that sounds like a pretty boring way to start a story, doesn't it? But this chessboard was no ordinary chessboard you find on the street. This chess board happened to be a training board at Chessing Academy. Now, dear reader, you probably don't know anything about Chessing Academy or Chesstopia, for that matter. So let me explain. In Chesstopia, each piece would be born from a king after a chess game had been won. Every piece would then die if when it's his or her time to play a chess game, it had been taken by the opposition. If you survived your game, you would continue to either go into retirement or teach new pieces how to win their chess game. In Chessing Academy, everyone started as a pawn in their first year of school and, if you proved you could play well, you would play your game at the start of Year 2. In Year 2, you would be selected to stay as a pawn or become a knight or bishop. In Year 3 though, you could be any piece, depending on how well you did in school. And, in class 3B, Lily, Jamie, and Jack were the Queen, King, and Rook. Now, these pieces were not just any old major pieces in Chessing Academy. They were special. Why? Well, you're about to find out! The timetable at Chessing Academy changed every 2 weeks, which was one of the things that made Chessing Academy the best school in the country. Anyway, at 10 past 2nd Bishop O'clock (which is 9:10 in non-chess hours), the trio were making their way to the Major Piece skills lesson which was scheduled to start at quarter past 2nd bishop o'clock.
