12.1 - How to be a competent prisoner
Wei Chengze didn't expect that he could open his eyes again.
After squinting his eyes and staring at the ceiling above his head for a long time, he seemed to have come to his senses and exhaled a long breath.
Also, the so-called punishment cannot be allowed to end so easily. What's more, with the abilities he has shown before, he doesn't think the system is willing to give up on him.
This is a cell. There are gray-black walls on three sides. There are heavy locks on the iron fence. The mottled walls are covered with unidentified stains. In the corner are the corpses of some small insects. Near the roof, dim light filtered in from a palm-sized vent.
Two jailers were sitting at a table not far away, looking over here from time to time.
Wei Chengze was currently lying on the only bed in the cell. The rough wooden bed was covered with a thin quilt, which was completely unable to withstand the severe cold of winter. The pillow under his neck was cold and stiff, causing Wei Chengze to frown.
Although he was not very talented in the last world, he was still an outer disciple of thousands of worlds, but in this world, he directly became a death row prisoner waiting to die in prison.
In three more days, he will be pressed to the Meridian Gate and beheaded in front of thousands of people.
The only good news is that he doesn't have to use anyone else's name anymore.
Although it is just an insignificant name, it is still a little awkward. The habits formed over the years are not easy to change.
Withdrawing his gaze from the two jailers, Wei Chengze glanced at the empty cells on both sides and slowly closed his eyes.
There is still no memory of the original owner in his mind, and there is no system that is always noisy. There is only a faint sadness, and I don't know why.
There were waves of pain that could not be ignored throughout his body. It seemed that he had been tortured not long ago. If Wei Chengze didn't come, he might not be able to survive until the execution in three days just because of his body.
After slowing down his breathing, Wei Chengze carefully adjusted his posture to put as little pressure on the wound as possible.
Although he could bear the pain, he was not a person who liked to abuse himself.
Without distracting his eyes, the voices of the two jailers talking became clearer in Wei Chengze's ears.
This is a cell specially designed to hold important criminals. Except for the old prime minister of the past generation who is far away in the corner at the other end, Wei Chengze is the only one at the moment. It is naturally impossible for the two people to leave the topic of him. From their words, it was extremely easy for Wei Chengze to deduce his identity and situation.
Jingguo's national advisor, with unparalleled magnificence, charmed the monarch and framed Zhongliang. In the end, he was despised by thousands of people. He was imprisoned by the general of Zhenguo on 21 charges and was to be executed on a day-to-day basis.
He is really... a textbook standard traitor.
Listening to the two jailers counting their crimes one by one, Wei Chengze felt a little strange. Even he, who knew nothing about what happened, could tell that some of the accusations were completely false, and it was impossible for other people in the court not to notice. It's just that the current results are what most people are happy to see. Therefore, not only will no one stand up to question the accusations, but they will strongly support Fang Shaoyuan and try their best to find so-called "evidence" to prove those crimes.
If he wants to get out of the current situation, it will be a bit difficult. After all, there is really not much time left for him.
But...it's just because of this that it's more interesting, isn't it?
If all games could be cleared easily, it would be really boring. The more difficult a problem is to solve, the easier it is to arouse people's desire to win - at least for Wei Chengze, this is the case.
With his lips slightly curved, Wei Chengze lay quietly on his side on the cold bed, thinking about his escape plan.
The conversation between the two jailers continued, but the content had already deviated from the original theme.
"It's a pity to put this kind of appearance on a man."
"Actually, I think it doesn't matter if he is a boy or a girl when he looks like this... Who cares?"
"That's right, otherwise, how could our emperor be so famous? He's fascinated, tsk tsk tsk..."
"After seeing him, I won't be able to look at any beauty in the future!"
"The people from the Palace of Punishment can do it, look at that injury..."
"... ...My heart aches when I see it..."
"I heard that the emperor almost fell out with General Fang because of this?"
"Hey, I heard that the emperor directly smashed a hole in General Fang's head with an inkstone! "
Oh, beauty can mislead people. What if..."
The conversation was suddenly interrupted, followed by the sound of tables and chairs colliding, and the obviously panicked voices of the two jailers.
"General Fang!" "Master Li!"
Listening to the unhurried footsteps stopping outside the cell, Wei Chengze slowly opened his eyes and met the eyes of the person standing outside the cell door.
This man was tall, dressed in black, and his eyes were filled with awe-inspiring righteousness.
Fang Shaoyuan, the general of Jingguo Zhenguo, was also the culprit who put Wei Chengze in jail.
Wei Chengze suddenly wanted to laugh.
It's not that he didn't expect to see this person again, but he didn't expect it would be so soon, let alone that their identities would be so interesting.
A man wearing a green robe stood beside Fang Shaoyuan, looking at Wei Chengze with obvious contempt. The two jailers stood behind them, their faces full of anxiety and nervousness.
Wei Chengze felt that at this time, he should sit up and show his grace, but there were too many wounds on his body and it hurt even the slightest movement. He really didn't want to move, so he simply lay on his side and looked lazily. Looking at the four people standing outside the cell door.
Seeing Wei Chengze's appearance, the man in green frowned, obviously very dissatisfied with Wei Chengze's attitude. But he still didn't speak. He just turned his head and looked at Fang Shaoyuan beside him: "General?"
But Fang Shaoyuan didn't seem to hear his voice, and just looked at Wei Chengze blankly, with a look in his eyes. He looked a little dazed.
This was not the first time that Fang Shaoyuan met Wei Chengze. In order to tear this man down from his high position, he spent a lot of effort and even tried to personally remove this great harm to Jingguo. But now, looking at the thinly dressed man in front of him, Fang Shaoyuan felt his heart tighten inexplicably.
Pain, regret, sourness, joy - all kinds of emotions were mixed together, churning in his chest, so that Fang Shaoyuan couldn't even tell what he was feeling for a moment.
Taking a step forward unconsciously, Fang Shaoyuan opened his mouth, as if he wanted to say something, but for some reason, no sound came out.
"General?" Seeing that Fang Shaoyuan's expression was different, the young man couldn't help but raise his voice and shouted again.
Wei Chengze's appearance is indeed rare in the world, but Fang Shaoyuan is determined not to be deceived by this appearance, otherwise he would not risk being beheaded and insist on impeaching Wei Chengze. But the appearance of Shaoyuan below seemed to be possessed by a monster, with a look of obsession in his eyes.
This Wei Chengze is indeed a disaster. Maybe he had used such a magic trick before, so that His Majesty the Emperor, who had always been strict and upright, always defended this guy who was causing trouble in the imperial court.
Thinking like this, the disgust in the eyes of the man in green became more and more obvious, and he wished he could take Wei Chengze's life right away.
As if aware of the man's thoughts, Wei Chengze glanced at him and suddenly sat up with his body propped up. It's just that his injured body is too weak, but such a simple movement caused a thin layer of sweat to break out on his forehead.
Wei Chengze leaned weakly against the wall behind him, his untied long dark hair falling from his ears, making his bloodless face look too clear. He looked at the man in green, his lips slightly curved, revealing a shallow smile.
Like a hibiscus blooming for the first time, like snow falling into the lake, without any dirt or dust.
His heart beat uncontrollably. The man in Tsing Yi looked away embarrassedly, not daring to look at Wei Chengze. He only felt a heat behind his ears.
This damn...monster!
He kept cursing in his heart, his heart beating rapidly, and he never dared to look at Wei Chengze.
After getting the result he wanted, the smile on Wei Chengze's lips deepened slightly. His eyes swept over the man with evasive eyes and the two jailers with obsessed eyes, and finally fell on Fang Shaoyuan, who looked stunned.
"I don't know General Fang is here, but what's the matter?" Although there was a smile on his face, there was no smile in Wei Chengze's voice, and his eyes seemed to be covered with ice, without any warmth.
Being brought back to his senses by this voice, Fang Shaoyuan looked at Wei Chengze with a somewhat complicated look.
It was he who caused Wei Chengze to end up in the situation he is in now. It is normal for the other party to have such an attitude towards him. If Wei Chengze behaved warmly and familiarly at this moment, it would make people suspicious. But for some reason, he was Looking into Wei Chengze's eyes, Fang Shaoyuan only felt a throbbing pain in his heart, as if he owed this man something.
The regret that surged out at that moment kept gnawing at his heart, and the bone-gnawing pain made him almost shed tears.
"You..." As if something was blocked in his throat, Fang Shaoyuan opened and closed his lips several times before finally making a dry sound, "...does it hurt?"
