OMNISCIENT + ANGEL'S POV
•••
PAST: 6 MONTHS AGO
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, SANTO DOMINGOLove was in the air. Valentines Day. A time where everyone is happy, except if you're single.
Which, no one typically wants to be single on Valentine's Day.
And lucky for Angel, he isn't.
Imani, and Angel roamed the streets side by side. The greatest loss they experienced, had actually made them closer.
Although Angel's heart still ached day in and day out, he was happy to have Imani.
"What you wanna eat?" Imani asked, his voice soft. He wanted to be nicer to be Angel, not just because of the accident, but because he truly loved him.
And although Imani never saw true love, he somehow knew how love was supposed to work when it came to Angel.
"I kinda want tamales. Tú? I'm sure mi papá will make anything for you." Ángel smiled.
He felt alive being here.
It was vibrant here, he was also happy to be around his parents again.
He missed them more than ever.
"Si, me encantan los tamales." Angel smiled at a Imani's Spanish. He was improving everyday, he needed to be fluent, he almost was fluent.
"I'm glad you came with me. I needed the company, and honestly, I wouldn't have chosen anyone else." Angel spoke, as they walked into his parent's restaurant.
Before Imani could respond, Angel had seen a boy no older than fifteen, stealing bread from the counter.
He rushed over, seeing how the boy was about to run out the restaurant.
The teenage boy looked frightened, and quite hungry.
"Para¡¿Qué estás haciendo?" He had shout, grabbing onto the boy. As he got a closer look, he had saw tears brim the boys eyes. "Por favor, no me corte las manos señor! I won't do it again, I swear!"
Imani scoffed. His motto was, "If you're going to steal, don't get caught."
And Imani never did.
But no one else needed to know that. "Que? Cut off your hands? Ese no soy yo..." Angel muttered out.
"Ingles?" He asked, the boy nodded his head. Angel let go of his arm, before continuing.
"Look, between you and I, today is Valentine's Day.. and mi pana planned on spending it together.. I'll let you take the bread, don't steal from here again, si? My parents worked too hard for this place, later on knock on the back door three times. I'll cook you something to eat. Si?"
The boy simply nodded his head, he thanked Angel quietly. He glanced over to Imani, gulping loudly.
"He's not as scary as he looks. Hasta luego?"
