TW: flashback of death, panic attack, injuries (briefly described, not that descriptive though), Some swearing,
----
Ink stumbled through his portal into the Doodle Sphere, and immediately fell to the floor exhausted and tired. '...Ink.. You really need some-'
"No.." Ink interrupted Broomie. "I... I need to be able to protect... Can't... Stop now..." Ink put his boney hands against the wooden floor of his cottage, and pushed himself up to sit up against the wall. He coughed a little, splattering drops of ink (blood) on the floor.
Broomie floated in front of Ink. 'I understand wanting to protect others but... We just saved twenty AUs today... I'm getting no more pings that any world is in danger... Please... Lay down... I'll watch your back...'
Ink knew the only reason Broomie wanted to watch Ink was to make sure he didn't leave. After all the years of being hunted down and all the near experiments, Ink and Broomie (And the Doodle Sphere) trusted no one. Only one person (well skeleton) was able to earn their trust. His name was... Gin...
...
Gin...
Gin... died...
Ink was checking up on Gin after finally defeating Flowey (Tantan) and freeing him from hell. Ink walked into his room, only to find him coughing and in pain.... Ink tried laying Gin down but...
But Gin stopped Ink from helping him.
He said his goodbyes, while Ink begged him not to go, holding him close.
He... dusted in Ink's arms, his last words being that he'd protect Ink...
And... Only his mask remained... And Gin never came back...
...
Ink rubbed his forehead, forcing himself not to cry from the memory. "I'll rest... Wake me if anything happens..." Ink yawned, and within a few seconds he was out on the floor.
***
A burning on Ink's left arm woke him up. He sat up and rubbed his eyes, fully waking up, then checked what was going on.
Codes from DreamTale, a very old AU, were being stolen from there. (Huh.) Ink got up, feeling a bit more refreshed than earlier, and summoned Broomie up.
'I was about to get you. This is... certainly a new feeling. We may have to actually go there...' Broomie went to Ink's hand, and Ink spun them around to open a portal.
"Sadly, I think you're correct, Broomie... You watch my back and I'll watch yours..." Ink was starting to feel a bit devoid of guilt...
Broomie hummed nervously. 'Do you think you should drink your vials before going...?' Ink shook his head. "I'll work better if I don't feel the guilt of hurting someone..." Broomie, after a few seconds, accepted this, and let Ink know they were ready when he was. Ink nodded, and jumped through the portal.
Ink stumbled the moment he landed through the portal, not realizing how damaged the AU was. Guess code hunting was on the to-do list today. Someone laughed behind Ink, making Ink immediately pull out Broomie and spin around.
All Ink saw were two icy blue eye-lights with pink, green, and blue glitches phasing in and out of existence. The eyes seemed to smile at Ink, in a creepy hypnotic way. "Hello, Protector.... You're never around anymore... Only those stupid ass clones of yours are..." The [thing/person/skeleton???] chuckled.
