LOOK, this summer didn't go as i planned. sure, i was excited to come to cousins for like the first time in my life, but who knew it was gonna turn out like this? welcome to dylan's world. to really know how i ended up in this mess, we have to go back to when it all started.
"ahh! lauren i swear im so excited. this place is so summer-coded i swear." my parents had booked us an airbnb to rent while we stayed in cousins, except lauren and i had our own little villa, so that meant we could do anything we wanted, and not get in trouble for it. and that meant everything, and anything.
"i am unwritten, can't read my mind, im undefined" the song played in the background as lauren and i were sitting in the back shouting along to the lyrics. this song was our song, ever since we were kids. i didn't know what this town was like or anything, so i liked that it was kinda up to our interpretation of what we thought. so far, so good.
we make a pit stop at the gas station and lauren and i go to buy some snacks. "hey ladies, you two new here?" a boy working at the cashier asked us as we walked in. as we nod, he mentioned that we should go to some fourth of july party. sounds fun, right? well that's what we thought. we check out our stuff and make our way back to the car as the boy who's name is apparently clay, shouts. "i expect to see y'all there okay?!"
"oh my god, we finally made it." lauren spoke up as she grabbed her suitcase from the trunk and made her way to our door. she was tired, i was tired, everyone was tired. i mean, it's a six hour drive, who wouldn't be tired? after a couple of hours, we had settled in and packed our stuff neatly into the dressers. "y'know, it wouldn't hurt to go to that beach bonfire," lauren spoke up. "plus, who knows, you could meet someone new, which is what you need after what that asshole ethan did to you."
"maybe you're right, i do need to get out of my comfort zone." at this point, i'm tired of acting as if i can't find someone better than him. so what if he cheated? that shouldn't stop me from trying to live my life. "alright, we'll go." and so we started getting ready for the night ahead of us.
