First Day

Marie took buckets full of water out of her slowly sinking boat, trying to avoid getting any water on herself. "Ever since I was a kid, Shanks would tell me stories about pirates and their adventures. So, yeah, the sea's been calling. Well, not exactly calling- because I pretty much can't swim- but you get the idea. I'm setting out to follow my dream, to find the One Piece and become queen of the Pirates!" She yelled enthusiastically, throwing her hands into the air before nearly dropping the bucket into the ocean as she caught it and held it close to her chest for a few moments.

"All I need is a loyal crew. I think about..uh...ten men should do?" She asked to herself and the person she was talking to- well..the bird. "Well, ten men and a bird. It's not gonna be easy. The ocean is... is pretty big and kind of dangerous... So what do you say? Are you with me?" She asked as the bird squawked before flying off.

"Mutiny.." she muttered before she felt it. The water was quickly filling her old boat. If she didn't figure something out fast, this would be her first AND last day as a true pirate.

"Oh- oh man- uhhh.." she looked around before grabbing a barrel of fish. Ugh, she hated fish- but she hated dying more than that. So she dumped it out and climbed in, feeling it hit the water. Man..even just the rocking of the barrel sort of drifted her off to sleep.

She didn't even wake after her barrel had been brought onto another ship. She didn't wake up until nightfall. And that was only because she was hungry.

She popped out of the barrel, tumbling out of it as she groaned before shaking her head. "Ughhhh..." She looked around. Huh. Sick. Somewhere new- hopefully they had food.

"AHHHHHH!" a boy screams and she stands up to look at him.

"Shhh!" She calls out and then pulls him close and covers his mouth. "Shhhhhh I am not going to hurt you." She tells him. "But you have to be quiet, can you do that for me hon?"

He nods his head blushing. (Remember we are aging up Coby he is 18 or 19 in this readers)

"Thanks," she says and smiles at him. "Now..." She pauses. "Do you have any food I am starving."

"Alvida does not let me eat until she is finished," Koby tells her.

"That is horrible, and... what is an Alvida?"

"You never heard of her?" Koby asks. "She is a fearsome pirate that is beyond cruel and harsh with her clubs! She is the Captain of the Alvida pirates."

"Oh, that is good, 'cause I am a pirate too!" She gushes happily. "She will be the first pirate I have met since I started my journey!"

Koby's eyes widen, this clumsy girl is a pirate. "Yo-You don't look like a pirate..." Koby says.

"Hm?" She asked turning to him as she looked around. " What do they look like?" She asked confused.

"Pirates are scum. They're thieves and murderers." King said, his voice was full of venom and contempt, he made no effort to hide it.

"Not the pirates I know." She said shrugging. She seemed to be smiling at a memory as her hand traced under her eye.

"I don't get it. Why would anyone want to be a pirate?" Koby asked as Marie smiled.

"'Cause it's the best thing there is. You have the... the wind in your back, the salty sea air, your loyal crew by your side. You never know what's on the horizon. It's all about being... free."

"Nothing's free about Alvida's crew. She tells me when to eat and when to sleep. I even have to paint her toenails." Marie arched her brow.

"So why don't you just leave?" Marie asks tilting her head.
