I let her go after a while and we walked back up to the common room together, I had my arm tightly wrapped around her shoulder and she had hers around my waist, I could see the jealous stares that we got as we walked up to the doors and tried to ignore them. We walked in together, I could see Roan still organising the party but said nothing. He looked up and saw me, we made eye contact but I looked away, slowly blinking in dismissal. He came over none the less. “Look Shig, can I talk to you?”

“I’ll leave you two to talk.” Midori said and went over to Arian. I watched her go and then turned to Roan. “What?”

“Look, I’m sorry, I hadn’t realised that you’d be so… angry by what I said, I didn’t mean to insult you in any way, I’m sorry Shig.”

“You’ve known me for six years Roan, how can you even think that I’d be the sort of person who would do that, I actually have respect for girls, I may not pay a great deal of attention to most of them, but I’d never do something like that to any of them.”

“I wasn’t trying to say that you would Shig, I just… I don’t know what I was thinking, I was trying to be a good mate, I only meant to point out the fact, not tell you what to do.” I looked at him and saw the sincerity in his eyes.

“Alright, I believe you, but just don’t ever suggest something like that again.”

“I won’t.”

“And do you want to know what Arian and I were talking about last night? About me turning out like you and breaking Midori’s heart, Arian pointed your track record out to me and let me tell you Roan, you might like the way that you are with girls currently, but some time soon, it’s going to catch up with you and they’ll be no girl left for you to have, because you’ll have used them all.” I looked at him sympathetically and walked over to where Midori was.

It was a bit awkward after that, but when evening meal came, we both ate our food and talked boisterously, laughing and joking like normal. I could never hold a grudge for long, I never saw the point, if someone apologised, then who was I to make them feel worse. In my opinion, arguing is just a waste of time an energy that could be better spent doing something else.

We all went back to our dorms shortly after we left the eating hall; it had been a cold day and the weather was too bad to stay outside. When Roan and I got to our dorm we got changed and then I lay on my bed for a while, just staring at the ceiling. I could see Roan sitting on the edge of his bed, his expression showed me that he was thinking about something important. “What’s up?”

“Did you mean what you said before?”

“When?”

“When you told me what you had been talking to about Arian? Do the girls really see me like that?”

I didn’t want to answer him, but could see the plea in his eyes as I looked at him, “I’m sorry Roan, but yeah, some do.”

“Who like?”

“Well, Arian for one, and maybe Midori, but I’m not completely sure to be honest.”

“Am I really that bad?”

“Roan, when was the last time that you stayed with one girl for more than a month without cheating on her behind her back?” Roan just looked at me and I could see his expression change as he realised the facts; he never had and he’d never even realised it. I could see him shift uncomfortably under my gaze as he realised the truth.

I said nothing and rolled over in my bed, closing my eyes and bringing the cover up to my chin. I reflected on what had happened; It had been very eye opening, for more than just me.
