Chapter One

Sweat drips down my face as I jerk awake. Tears roll steadily down my face. Without realising, a scream leaves my parched lips.

"Rose honey?" says my mum. "Honey?"

I hear my mother crashing about in the dark. Her footsteps grow closer and my door creaks open. An intense light gushes through the room. I shield my eyes.

"Honey. You're crying!" exclaims mother. "Bad dream?" she asks before pulling me into a tight embrace.

"No." Tears begin to cascade down my face once more.

I hear a sharp intake of breath and then "The future?"

"Yes," I say shakily.

"Did some one die?"

"Yes," I say, "But..."

"Yes honey?"

"This time was different. I don't know him yet but I shall."

"Tell me," says my mother keeping calm.

"We were... We were camping. A large group of us. Our camp was invaded by these things. Horrifying. We ran. On girl had her head bitten off. We continued running. I got spilt up from the rest but was still being chased. But the moon came out and teething ran away. I carried on till I reached the edge of the woods. Then...". I let out a sob.

"Hmm," says my mother coaxingly.

"Then a scream. I ran. I boy had been stabbed. A boy I knew. A boy who was my boyfriend." I let out another involuntary sob and collapse in a heap.

My mother looks troubled before starting to sing,

"Deep in the meadow, under the willow

A bed of grass, a soft green pillow

Lay down your head, and close your sleepy eyes

And when again they open, the sun will rise."

Her sweet words lull me to sleep.
