I stand in the waiting room, looking for an answer. Mom is attached to all these weird patches.
She points to her water.
Emily comes to the hospital, hugging me around the shoulder.
"I don't think she is going to make it." I say.
"Don't say-"
Nurse Audrey comes, she nods, "One final hug."
I can't walk.
"MOM! Don't leave me, I can't say goodbye, you're only thirty-six, you need more time. DO SOMETHING!" I yell at the nurse, holding onto my mom's hand.
Her last word to me was rain. Rain, my grandfather's name. It must mean something.
"Call Julia. She should be awake."
"Is she still in Cuba?"
"She shouldn't. And I don't care."
"Okay."
I walk to mom, she is still breathing until she hears Julia's voice on the phone.
"Remember honey, Rain is key." She told me. Then she was gone.
Was there something I could have said to stop her from hurting? Without that I seem worthless. I think to myself.
"She's coming. She told the captain to circle back. How did she end up like this anyway?"
"She had anxiety. No depression. It caught up to her. She would be sad and would seem depressed some days, and totally normal other days. It was time I guess." I explain that to Emily, choking on my words.
