Zane stared at the shredded sketches in the shredder. He felt a pang of guilt; after all, she had put all her hard work into those sketches and now this had happened.
He rushed to his room and retrieved an old sketchbook, unleashing a torrent of creativity onto its pages. Gorgeous dresses with all the colors of the rainbow, pants that exuded perfection, elegant skirts that drew attention, and blouses that spoke of timeless class filled the pages.
With his sketches in hand, Zane approached Didi's room door. 'Didi? Are you there?' For a moment, there was silence; then, silently, she opened her door. Her eyes were bloodshot, tears staining the pillow she clutched. 'What do you want?'
'Well, I tried something and I wanted to know what you thought of it?' Zane handed the sketches to his sister; she looked at them admiringly. 'They're perfect! How did you do this?'
'I just tried something, I'm glad you're happy with it!' Didi embraced her brother, whispering, 'Maybe I don't say this often, but you're amazing!'
Didi dashed downstairs, grabbing her coat. 'Where are you going in such a hurry?' Carissa asked, sweeping the living room. 'Zane saved my life, I'm going to send these sketches to the fashion agency and hope they are accepted for the fashion show.' With a broad smile, she stormed out of the house.
Zane descended with his Game Boy, immersing himself in the game once more. 'I've never seen you playing that actively on that thing before?' remarked Carissa as she continued to sweep. 'Well, it's getting interesting. I have a magic peach ring or something and we're magic fruit superheroes. I still like it,' said Zane, engrossed in the game.
'As long as you're not on it all day. Tomorrow you have school again, make sure you don't forget your schoolwork! Otherwise, you'll get in trouble.'
'I'll be fine.' Zane grabbed his phone and started typing to Noah.
[02:30 PM] Zane
Hiii
[02:32 PM] Noah
Ello
[02:33 PM] Zane
How are you?
[02:34 PM] Noah
Alright, with you?
[02:36 PM] Zane
How are you?
[02:34 PM] Noah
Alright, with you?
[02:36 PM] Zane
Alright, hi I have a question.
[02:36 PM] Noah
Homework again? Seriously, man. 🙄
[02:37 PM] Zane
Oh, come on, please? I really can't get this done. 🥺
[02:39 PM] Noah
No, man, you really can't do this every time. And remember last week, when I already helped you with your books for school? 😒😠
[02:40 PM] Zane
Pls... This is the last time I'll ask, promise! 🥺😭
[02:42 PM] Noah
Are you really promising that?
[02:43 PM] Zane
YES! I promise! 🤞🏻
[02:48 PM] Noah
Okay, send whatever you need. But this is really the last time, okay? 😒😑
[02:51 PM] Zane
Thxxxxxx
Zane forwarded all the pictures of tasks, pages from his books, and anything else he hadn't finished to Noah. Then, he turned off his phone's Wi-Fi because he knew Noah would start complaining about how much it was, and he didn't feel like dealing with that for a while. Instead, he decided to play a game on his phone.
Didi came home with a smile on her face.
'You're back already?' asked Zane in surprise, 'You've only been gone barely 15 minutes?'
'I just couldn't wait any longer, so I walked over to the fashion agency, and they loved the sketches! Of course, I shouldn't cheer too much yet, because there are other candidates, but I'm just so happy!' exclaimed Didi with a loud cry.
'Woohoo, you're home; can I have a bag of chips now? I'm so comfortable, and I don't want to stand up.'
'I thought you'd be somewhat interested! They're your sketches, aren't they?' said Didi, looking at Zane, confused but also a bit angry.
'You don't even know if they'll be chosen yet. Then why should I be super happy already?'
'Never mind, if I know anything, I'll let you know,' Didi said, storming upstairs.
Zane checked his phone to see if Noah had responded, and strangely enough, he had only sent two messages.
[03:16 PM] Noah
Hey, those things you forwarded, aren't they just the tasks you should have already finished?
And they are even completed correctly? 🤔
[03:20 PM] Zane
Huh, but I didn't make those at all?
[03:23 PM] Noah
How else would they have been filled in?
[03:25 PM] Zane
Maybe some ghost doing my homework? 👻
[03:28 PM] Noah
Haha, yeah, like that could happen!
[03:28 PM] Zane
I'm going to ask Didi if she saw me while I was doing my homework. 🕵️♂️
[03:31 PM] Noah
Okay, good luck with that!
[03:34 PM] Zane
See you later! 🖐️
[03:34 PM] Noah
Later!
Zane ran upstairs.
'Didi! Do you know when I did my homework? Because I don't remember any of this.'
Didi quietly came strolling out of her room. 'Haha, silly. I did it; I wanted to surprise you as a thank you for saving my life by making new sketches.'
'But then again, why did you do everything? I was happy with just one something, you know.'
'But one something is so little then,' Didi replied with a smile.
'Well, thanks!' said Zane with a smile on his face, as he quietly went downstairs.
