"He left everything to her?" My mother's asks in a sharp voice. "Why?"
"Who the hell is she?" Zara demands.
"There must be some mistake." Grayson says in a calm voice.
"Grayson's right." Avery agrees, making everyone turn to her. "There must be some mistake," she continues, her voice hoarse.
"You see? Even Ava agrees this is ridiculous," my mom says.
"I assure you, there is no mistake." Mr. Ortega glances at Avery before turning back his attention on everyone. "And I assure the rest of you, Tobias Hawthorne's last will and testament is utterly unbreakable. Since the majority of the remaining details concern only Avery, we'll cease with the dramatics. But let me make one thing very clear: Per the terms of the will, any heir who challenges Avery's inheritance will forfeit their share of the estate entirely."
"No will is that ironclad," my uncle, interrupts. "Not when there's this kind of money at stake."
"Spoken," Nash stops him, "like someone who didn't really know the old man."
"Traps upon traps," Jameson murmurers. "And riddles upon riddles."
"I think you should leave," Grayson tells Avery.
"Technically..." Alisa pauses, "it's her house."
I shut my eyes in an attempt to shut my ears as well. I open my eyes and looked at my brothers, Grayson wasn't happy to say the least. I turn to Matt to find him already looking at me. I quickly spin around and leave the room, ignoring my mother's attempts of stoping me.
I walk through the house, going upstairs towards my room. Once I get into my room I immediately go to my window. Sliding it open, I climb onto the roof and sit down. After staring into the distance for a while, I lie down.
"What are you doing?" Someone says suddenly. Flicking open one eye, I see Matt staring down at me.
"Had to get away from all the commotion and thought, hey might as well get a tan in well I'm at it," I say while closing my eyes.
"Smart," he mumbles as I hear his footsteps approaching me. I open my eyes to find him lying down beside me.
"Whats going on downstairs?"
"Avery's scared for her life and your family's pissed. Well except for Nash, Xander, and Jamie, they're fine."
"Grayson?"
"He's been better," Matt mumbles.
"I feel bad for Avery, her life is officially ruined."
"You don't think she had anything to do with it?"
"No, she's too genuine." We both lie in silence before Matt brakes it.
"How's the boyfriend?"
"He's fine."
"Still together?"
"Yup. How the girlfriend?"
"We broke up."
"Oh. Sorry," I say making him immediately burst out into laughter. "What?"
"That was the least sympathetic sorry I've ever heard," he grins.
"What? You want a pity party or something?" I smile.
"Hey, don't joke. I'm super heartbroken right now," he says, attempting to be serious, but making both of us start laughing.
"You staying the night?"
"Probably, you?"
"Probably," I say sarcastically.
"We should have a party. It's been so long since we've had a pool party here."
"Don't think it's the best time right now," I snort.
"True, give it a week," he jokes.
"I'm surprised you didn't get anything, being his favorite and all."
"Says the one who got the most out of ur siblings."
"Don't remind me," I groan. "It's like he wants me to suffer."
"You get your money before they do."
"I do?"
"They get it at twenty-five well you only have to wait till twenty-two. You and Nash are getting your money the same year."
"I can't wait to bother them about that later," I grin.
"I should leave before Grayson or someone finds me up here."
"Why?"
"You know how he is about you hanging out with any guy."
"True," I mumble as Matt stands up.
"Cheer up, yeah?"
"Sure thing bud," I say looking up at him, blocking out the sun with my hand.
"Let me know what your letter says," he walks up to my window.
"Bye Matt, thanks," I smile, squinting at him.
"Anytime Hudson," he replies before climbing back through my window....
"Where's Gray?" I ask, waking into Jamie room and falling onto his bed.
"Went to go talk to M.G. She's staying at a hotel."
"M.G.? You're so weird."
"Mystery girl," he replies like it's obvious.
"He went alone?" I ask, bringing the conversation back to Grayson.
"He went with Matt, after they got food."
"Have you eaten dinner yet?" I ask, sitting up.
"Didn't get a chance."
"Wanna go get Chick-fil-A?" I smile.
"Fuck yes," he grins.
"Get Xan, I'll be in the car," I say before walking out.
I walk through the house, towards the front door. Before I can open it, I leave foyer and walk towards my mom and aunts rooms.
"Mom?" I knock on her bedroom door.
"What is it Hudson," she says in an annoyed tone. I push open the door to find her laying in her bed.
"Did you eat dinner yet?"
"Does it look like I've had time for dinner?"
"Me, Xander, and Jamie are getting food. Do you want anything?"
"No," she mumbles.
"If I wanted to get you something anyways what would you want?"
"Steak."
"From Chick-fil-A mom."
"Whatever has the least fat. But, I don't want anything."
"Right. We'll be back in around thirty minutes," I say before shutting her door. I go to Zara's room next.
"Z?" I knock quietly.
"Yes Hudson?" She says in a light tone.
"I'm taking the boys to get dinner. What should I get you?"
"Thanks, but I'm alright."
"Have you had dinner?"
"I'll eat something when I get hungry," she says, starting to lose her patience.
"Do you want anything uncle Constantine?"
"No."
"I'll get extra incase you guys are hungry and leave it in the kitchen." Not waiting for them to reply, I walk away.
