"jane, you good to go?" dawn slammed the trunk of the car, beckoning for the girl who was struggling down the path with her boxes balanced in one arm as she attempted to tug a suitcase behind her. "a little help would be nice," she called out to her friend who peered in through the backseat. "if they don't fit in the back, we're screwed," she commented, ignoring dawn's comment. dawn and jane had lived three doors down from each other their entire lives, jane didn't know a world in which her and dawn were not close.

jane successfully crammed her suitcase into the back of the car before taking one last look at the street she had grown up on. she had grown up with dawn on that street and then when they had been in their freshman year of high school, they'd met mirage. jane hadn't originally been sold on the idea of their duo becoming a trio but once she'd actually given mirage a chance, she realised that the girl was a perfect fit. "mirage is already on her way," dawn waved her phone at her. "tell her to try and steal someone's dorm key so we can be together." dawn rolled her eyes at her. "as if you're planning on spending much time in your own room."

she had spent the majority of high school partying, everyone had been shocked when she'd actually gotten into college but jane had always ignored them. she'd been good at balancing her social life and studying for the most part, her acceptance letter was proof of that. dawn, jane and mirage had all applied for the same college, but it was complete luck that they had all gotten into the same one. jane was only hoping that they'd have the same luck when it came to their assigned dorms.

"you ok?" dawn asked as jane clambered into the passenger side. "having second thoughts?" she was joking but jane really was having second thoughts. she glanced out the window, a small smile tugging at her face and took a deep breath. "i'm fine," she said. "let's go."

"wait what room does it say you're in?" jane yanked at mirage's arm. "203," mirage waved the paper at her, jane letting out a loud and slightly dramatic groan in response. dawn was still stood waiting for her room number and she was jane's last shot at sharing a room with someone she actually knew and liked.

"dawn!" jane grinned at her, the smile instantly dropping off her face once the darker haired girl shook her head at her. "i'm 106," she sighed. "oh so we're all on seperate floors now as well?" jane scowled. "great." she glanced down at the key she was holding in her own hand. room 309 without her friends. it wasn't that jane cared much about being with a stranger, it was just the familiarity of having someone she knew around her. "next year we can get our own place," mirage nudged her. "i wonder if my roommates hot."

"if you fuck your roommate, maybe she'll move out and then i can move in," jane grinned at her. "we can get an extra bed and sneak dawn in, that sounds like a great plan." mirage raised a brow at her. "i'm not going to fuck my roommate, that was a joke." jane shrugged. "maybe i'll fuck mine," she teased. "then you can move in with me." she didn't await their sarcastic answer because out of the three of them, she was more likely to hook up with her roommate.

"i'm going to find my room and claim the better side of it before whoever i'm stuck with arrives," she sighed. "i'll see you guys later." she grabbed the handle of her suitcase and pulled it towards the elevator. the rest of her boxes were still in dawn's car, she'd have to locate the girl to retrieve the rest of them once she actually found her room.

a bunch of freshmen milled around her, each one of them trying to figure out where their rooms were and who they'd be sharing with. the elevator pinged open in front of jane, the blonde hitting the button for the third floor. "hold it!" a girl slid in through the closing doors, yanking her bag harshly. the movement caused her to tip over ever so slightly, her own suitcase banging off jane's leg. "unbelievable," the blonde muttered under her breath, attempting to ignore the unsteady girl beside her. "sorry," the darker haired girl regained her composure, running a hand through her hair. "watch it," jane rolled her eyes as the girls suitcase slid halfway across the elevator.

jane glanced in her direction of the girl as she grabbed the handle of her suitcase and found herself doing a double take. the girl beside her was drop dead gorgeous. jane tried to pull herself together, she was not going to let this girl know she instantly had her flustered. jane had always found it easy to flirt with other women, this would not be hard for her at all. and what was college if not the place to flirt? the elevator shuddered to a halt on the third floor and both girls made a move to exit. "oh," the girl went a furious shade of red, much to jane's amusement. "you go." jane skirted around her without an answer, afraid to make the interaction 10x more awkward than it already was.

the hallway seemed to stretch out for an eternity, for a split second jane wanted to run away. people around her had already started to load their belongings into their room, the people they were sharing with helping them. she moved past them to room 309 and turned her key in the door. she was there before her roommate, exactly how she wanted it. jane surveyed the room around her. both sides were evenly split, a bed, a wardrobe, a side-table and desk on both sides. the walls were entirely bare, jane didn't think her own bedroom walls had ever been bare. jane moved towards the left side of the room, realising it really did not matter what side of the room she was on.

"uhm, hi?" jane swung around and surveyed the girl standing in front of her. both their faces immediately dropped, the darker haired girl pulled herself together quicker than jane did, a small smile forming on her face. jane on the other hand was entirely unimpressed. "you have got to be kidding me."
