"Ellaaaaa... I'm telling you, I'm not drunk; I want to stay," I insisted, trying to prove I was sober.
"Pfft... Really, Lo? You can't even walk straight. Let's get you home," Ella replied, barely holding back her laughter.
"Are you... hic... laughing at me? Seriously, I can't believe this," I said, feeling a mix of embarrassment and annoyance.
"Hahaha... Sorry, but we really should get you home. Your dad is coming at 11 PM, right? It's already 10:30, and your house is kinda far," Ella reminded me.
Her words hit me like a splash of cold water. "Oh no, you're right. My dad is going to kill me."
"Exactly! Remember what you told me? He said he'd move you to another school if you went to a party again."
"Oh no, I'm dead. El, please help me!" I said, panicking
"Okay, chill. First, we need to get out of here."
"Right."
"Wait, I need to say bye to Jason."
"Really, Lo? Is that necessary? He's gross," Ella said, scrunching her face.
"Come on, El, he's my boyfriend. I'll be quick," I replied, making my way over to Jason, who was hanging out with his friends.
"Bye, babe. I'm heading out," I said, looking up at him.
"Really, Bebe? You should stay. I want to be with you," Jason said, pulling me closer.
Just as we were about to kiss, Ella shouted over the music, "We don't have all night!"
"What's her deal?" Jason asked, looking annoyed.
"She's right; we should go," I said, giving him a quick peck on the lips.
"Bye, Bebe," I called as I rejoined Ella.
As we walked out, I caught Ella whispering something. "Did you say something?"
"Nope, let's go," she said, smiling.
Once outside, we headed toward my car.
"Wow, you can't walk straight, but you're talking like everything's normal. That's hilarious!" Ella laughed.
"Really, El, stop laughing. Can you just help me?"
"Yeah, sorry," she said, helping me to the car and opening the door for me.
"Wow, such a gentleman," I joked.
"I doubt you could open the door yourself," she said sounding annoyed
"Okay, sorry. Why are you so grumpy today?" I asked, confused.
"I'm not grumpy" she sighed
. Just put on your seatbelt," she replied.I fastened my seatbelt, and she started driving. "You can sleep if you're tired," Ella said. I took her advice and quickly dozed off.
"Lo, wake up," she said, gently shaking me.
"Huh? What?" I mumbled, rubbing my eyes.
