Venti picked her up under her arms to place her on the car seat. "I can do it by myself dadd!" Mei grabbed the seatbelt next to her and pushed it to lock in place.
After the click sound, Mei looked up at her father and kicked her feet. "Aw, my smart girl." Venti grabs her cheek and presses a gentle kiss to her forehead.
Her five-year-old-smile has never once failed to make her dad melt a little inside.
Climbing into the driver seat, Venti adjusted his mirror to see his daughter, holding close a small bunny plush and looking outside her window. In the adorable little pink dress she wore, it just barely reached the bottom of her knees. A little princess, she was.
On the drive to their destination, Venti noticed a message on his phone. "Id rather meet you at the party, it's an easier trip." From Xiao. It was sent a minute ago, but Venti would rather leave him on delivered for a little, to make it seem like he's doing more important things than sitting in traffic.
He decides to look at his daughter in the mirror. She pretends her bunny is a ninja, racing along the seat and bouncing off the window to do an unnatural amount of backflips.
Mei doesn't do anything without bunny. Shes very attached, when she came home from the hospital as an infant, bunny came home too. When she sleeps, bunny is beside her, eating, playing, breathing.
Her third word was bunny.
The light turns green once again and Venti keeps his eyes on the road, he was always very serious when driving. So concentrated on the road that he almost missed the park he was supposed to stop near.
The sound of children screaming had his attention and immediately he pulled over, sighing that they made it on time.
Mei saw the tables set up, balloons, bouncy house, and a big sign that read "happy birthday!" As Venti lifted her out of the car, she pointed and constantly described everything she saw even though he can see it for himself.
But still, he had to keep up a surprised act to amuse her by saying things like "wait really?" or "thats so cool!".
"And theres a big cake!" Mei pointed at the table with a large cake on it, three layers, half the kids in this park wouldn't eat all that.
"Come on, let's go play." Venti knew the first place Mei would run to was the bouncy house. It was where lots of kids her age were, and lots of mothers watching. Venti helped her take off her shoes and set them neatly to the side where every other kid's shoes were lined up.
After she crawled in, Venti stood slightly away from the group of mothers, still watching his little girl through the black nets.
His attempt at keeping distance was of no use, because coming straight towards him was a woman with long black curly hair. She stood next to him for a second before speaking, "Which one is yours?" Venti couldn't just ignore her, so he pointed at his daughter, who was jumping in a corner with another little girl. "She's right there."
The woman laughed and place her hand on her hip. "Shes adorable, mines the one in the little jumping trio." Her son was easy to spot, especially since the resemblance was so obvious, dark curly hair and pale skin.
"And my.. other one." She pointed to a little kid maybe about 3, eating his sock in the corner, actually it was a different sock. Not like the other one he was wearing, unless he just wears two different socks.. He was also pale but had brown hair.
Venti laughed knowing how weird children may be sometimes.
"You know, I wouldn't have guessed you were a mother by looking at you. You're gorgeous."
