Y/N's POV
I slowly opened my eyes, feeling disoriented and a bit stiff. I hadn’t realized I’d fallen asleep by the lake, the rough trunk of the ancient tree digging into my neck. Rubbing the sore spot, I took a moment to breathe in the crisp morning air, feeling the warmth of the rising sun on my skin. The gentle sounds of nature surrounded me, a stark contrast to the tumultuous feelings swirling in my heart.
As I made my way back toward Hogwarts, memories flooded my mind, each one a reminder of why I needed to leave my current dormitory. Just a few days ago, a second-year had asked if I wanted to change dorms, and I’d declined. But now, after everything that had happened with Ginny, I desperately needed a fresh start. The thought of seeing her again filled me with dread. Perhaps the second-year still wanted to switch?
Entering the Great Hall, I noticed that only twenty or thirty students were scattered around, enjoying their breakfasts. The usual buzz of laughter and chatter felt muted, and I couldn’t help but feel out of place. My eyes landed on Elena, the second-year who had sparked my interest in a dorm switch. I took a deep breath and walked over to her.
“Hey! Remember me? You asked if I wanted to change dorms,” I said, trying to sound casual but feeling a flutter of nerves in my stomach.
“Oh, yes! I’m Elena Hansley,” she replied, her face lighting up as she set her book aside, clearly excited to see me.
“I was wondering if you’re still open to that idea of switching dorms,” I said, sitting down beside her, grateful for the opportunity to escape my current situation.
“Really? That would be amazing! When can we do it?” Her eyes sparkled with enthusiasm, and I couldn’t help but smile at her energy.
“Actually, how about now?” I suggested, feeling a sense of relief wash over me at the thought of moving away from the memories that haunted me.
“Absolutely! Let me just grab my things, and you can do the same!” she said, already standing up with a bounce in her step.
As she rushed off, I felt a mix of anticipation and anxiety wash over me. I returned to my dorm with purpose. Taking a deep breath, I steeled myself for the confrontation I hoped to avoid.
“Hey, Y/N,” Ginny greeted me, her tone casual, as if everything were normal. She was sitting on her bed, scrolling through a magazine, and it felt like a knife to my heart.
I didn’t respond. Instead, I grabbed my wand and began to pack my belongings into a small trunk, working quickly and quietly. The familiar routine was comforting, but the weight of my emotions pressed down on me.
“Y/N, where are you going?” Ginny asked, her voice trying to engage me, but I could hear the underlying tension.
I turned toward the door, pausing for a moment to take a last look back. Memories of our friendship flooded my mind, but the betrayal overshadowed them. “I trusted you, Ginerva,” I said, my voice steady, then slammed the door behind me.
Outside, I spotted Elena waiting near the entrance. “Which one is yours?” I asked, my voice calm and confident, determined to move forward.
“There!” she said, pointing to a door behind her.
“I hope to see you again, Hansley,” I said with a small smile, feeling a glimmer of hope before heading to my new dorm.
I knocked on the door, my heart racing with anticipation.
“Come in,” a sharp voice called from inside.
I opened the door to find a familiar face with bushy hair—Hermione Granger.
