"hi mum i have about three minutes to talk to you before i really need to go," said lorelai down the phone as she was quickly trying to choose an outfit.

"where are you of to in a rush this time?" her mum laughed down the phone.

"i'm meeting haley and blakes for dinner and i am already late," grumbled lorelai. "i hate going out."

"well i'll be quick then to tell you that trent paid me a visit today..." her mum started.

lorelai paused slightly at the mention of his name before carrying on.

"i haven't seen him in a while lorelai and he's really grown up."

"well i told him to visit you mum. i knew you would of liked to see him."

"you're talking to him now?"

"well not regularly. i've had a total of two conversations and i'm really not planning on any more."

"well about that lorelai, i invited him over for dinner next week. and i want you and oscar to both come."

"mum," lorelai groaned. "you have to be joking."

"you don't have to speak to him if you don't want to but i thought it would be nice so you're coming."

"he accepted the invite to dinner?" lorelai scoffed. "i'm shocked."

"i was surprised he agreed to it but here we are. i'll see you tomorrow lorelai love you lots."

"bye mum i love you."

"look who's late!" exclaimed haley as lorelai came rushing into the restaurant ten minutes late.

"i know i'm sorry but i swear it really wasn't my fault this time." groaned lorelai. "it was my mum, she called me."

"how is ruby? i've missed her." said blakley.

"well apparently trent visited her today..." started lorelai.

"awww his future mother in law!" joked haley.

"you're not funny at all" laughed lorelai.

"sorry sorry carry on," replied haley.

"she's invited him over to dinner next week and she wants oscar and i to come. i obviously will because i'm not going to say no to my mum but after what happened recently it's going to be even more awkward."

"just don't speak to him," said haley with a shrug. "he's there to speak to your mum that's it."

"even oscar won't speak to him so it gonna be even worse," said lorelai.

"trent will know this though," said haley. "he wouldn't of said yes without thinking about you and oscar."

"i don't know why he would say yes. i couldn't sit at dinner with him and his family. i would just get too upset and i wouldn't be able to sit through it."
