I stroke Anna's soft head gently. "Good girl." I whisper calmly to her.

She had successfully given birth to six small puppies. They squirmed and squealed as they fought over her milk.

"They're so tiny!" Orchid squealed quietly. Lenny was grinning as she cooed at the new mother.

"Yes. But remember," I say to her. "We need to give them all space."

Orchid rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Yeah, yeah! We get it Ritz! Don't touch the puppies until they're about a week old!"

"He's right though." Mom one eyed her seriously.

"I know but geez! He reminds us like every five minutes! And me and Lenny are the older ones! We should be the ones reminding him!"

I return the eye roll. "You two may be older, but I know WAY more about dogs and how they behave when there are newborns around then the two of you COMBINED!"

Lenny raises an eyebrow at me. "Excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me? Boy, who the hell taught you about dogs in the first place?"

"Lenny!" Mom two scolded. "Watch your mouth!"

"UGH! SORRY!" She rolls her eyes.

"You may have taught me the basics but I actually went and learned more about them. Not to mention, I'm not the one who goes cussing around like her life depends on it." I smirk.

   "Whatever." Lenny muttered.

-Six months later-

"Aw! She's perfect!" Mrs. Elkson smiled as Lily and Ricky, two of Anna's six-month old puppies licked her hands affectionately. "I'll take em' both."

"Great!" Mom one said. "Kiki, can you get their things while I discuss the details with Lorence?"

"Sure thing! I'll be right back." Mom two nods to Mrs. Elkson

Orchid was sobbing on Lenny's shoulder. She was still upset over Ellie, another puppy, the sickly one's passing. Which had taken place a week ago. And Anna was showing her own signs of grief. Often snuggling closer than usual to her other puppies, most likely thinking that she hadn't kept Ellie warm enough, eating way more then she should be, and sleeping a lot.

Orchid was also upset that we were selling Lily and Ricky today. I was sad about it too, but that had been why I didn't get to attached. That's what Orchid did, get attached.

What really broke me was how sad my sisters and dog were after Ellie died. It made me feel sick. I remember vomiting the second I walked in to feed Anna and check on the puppies only to find out one of them was dead.

The cold feeling of the body and stillness of it made all the mack and cheese and hotdogs I'd eaten for lunch come plummeting out onto the floor. I'd practically screamed after that.

Then Mom's came rushing in and I'd told them through sobs what was wrong.

An hour later, Mrs. Elkson left and Mom two came and gave me a kiss on my forehead. She did the same for my sisters before saying: "Why don't you kids go play with your friends?"

Lenny shrugs. "Okay... come on guys."

We meet our friends, Lily, Rick, Sally, Morty, and Nick, at the park. And we all spend the rest of the day playing.

-Ten years later-

I was hanging out with my friends, Nick and Rick, and we were all pretty bored.
