Deku stood on the concrete, its grains of sand producing friction between his shoe and the pavement as he nervously shuffled. He was standing in front of Bakugo, the man he had always loved. He admired everything about him.
The sharp angle of his jawline, the pointed eyes that glared at almost everything. He longed for them to soften; to change when he was around. The cheekbones of his sunken face, his red gaze that held a fiery passion and rage within them.
Even as a child, Deku knew what he had felt for him. Even if he couldn't place a name on it back then, it was love. But it wasn't reciprocal, the love was one sided, and Deku had to realize that. Even his name, one Bakugo had used to demean and spit dirt on, Midoriya had used to turn into something positive and hoped Bakugo would someday do the same. To see he changed, to see he could be a good partner.
But it wasn't that simple. It was never that simple. Deku had faced disadvantages in his life from the moment he was born. His father had walked out on them, leaving his mother struggling and depressed. Kaachan didn't love him. He loved him instead. He loved the red haired boy, Kirishima. And Deku couldn't doubt that he was better than him in every way. His rock hard skin that he saw Bakugo trace his fingers on, the way his eyes simmered down from the angry look of the usual simply because Kirishima was in his presence. When Deku saw Bakugo leave Kirishima's room at the early hours of the morning, a limp on the way back. Deku was thankful to his lucky stars that Bakugo hadn't seen him, he wouldn't come out alive. Because when Bakugo got angry; his eyes turned red... well he didn't even want to think about it.
All these instances should've prepared him, softened the blow of the inevitable truth, but Deku had to be stupid and naive and take a chance anyway. So now he stood in front of Bakugo, the blonde boy's teeth were clenched.
"Oi, oi, oi, Deku! How stupid are you? I don't love you. I hate you, I hope you die. Don't touch my rock daddy man. Never speak to me again! Even looking at your stupid face is making me angry!" Kaachan angrily yelled, taking the friendship bracelet Deku had attached to the note, and he ripped it in half.
"How could you?? I loved you!" Deku screamed, but it only came out as a whimper. His eyes became teary and he fell down to his knees. "You look pathetic!" Kaachan yelled, he walked away, no care in the world for Deku.
...
Deku cried.
He cried and cried and cried. He had never been so heartbroken. He remembered all the food times he had with bakugo...
They were only kids. Bakugo was with his friends, tormenting Deku, "Jump off a building and die!" He screamed.
'He's so thoughtful... 🥰 my man.' Deku thought, even talking to Kaachan was a blessing.
When they were walking along the river, Kaachan had given him a dead fish, a gift that complimented Deku's smell, he said.
Deku had treasured that fish and got it taxidermied, a reminder of Bakugo's love. He wrote their initials, M + B together on it, as a testament of love. When his mother threw it out he cried, as his man had never given him a gift before.
And now Deku sat there, crying.
