A/N: So I've had this one shot written for a long time, in fact not too long after The Avengers was released, and I finally decided to post it here for my lovely readers. Just a bit of Loki for his loyal army ;) I hope you will enjoy it! (Note: This is set in no relation to the Thor or Avengers films, as Loki is younger in this story.) Thanks for reading :)

The faint sounds of music, laughter and cheering echoed from the floors below. A great ball was being held in the house of Odin; after a week of preparation, a magnificent feast with the best drinks, music, dancing, and of course several accounts of the many victories of the Asgardian people would occur throughout the evening and late into the night. It was a day to celebrate their people and their past.
Celebrating. Something I wanted no part of. While all of the festivities were going on, I would be remaining in my room. I had no desire to associate with any of them, and it wasn't as if the citizens of our 'great' Asgard would pay mind to me if I were participating. Why would they? They had always disliked me, and often shunned or avoided me. I did not compare to their beloved Thor, so naturally I did not matter.
I pulled away one of the curtains that concealed my view of the rest of this realm. It was already dark, and millions of stars were shining down on the city below, creating an illumination I could not deny was rather beautiful, yet this evening I detested it. I stepped outside onto the balcony, and rested my head on a hand while scanning the city. The streets were empty; all citizens were required to attend the festivities for at least a period of time.
A light knock came from inside. I disregarded it until I heard the door slowly open.
A frail-looking girl quietly stepped into the dimly lit entrance area. I stepped inside and as my eyes readjusted to the light, I realized it was merely a servant and without another thought resumed my previous place on the balcony.
"Oh, Prince Loki, I am sorry. I did not know you were still here."
I didn't bother to turn around, or show any sign of response. Dull girl, why would I wish to be downstairs with those who despised me?
She entered the room further and neared where I stood, speaking up again softly. "I-I only came to tidy up here, my prince. I shall return in the morning if you like..."
"Proceed, unless of course I am in your way," I stated, venom seeping out of my words.
"No of course not, my prince. I will not be long."
I heard the girl step away, and I returned to my thoughts. However they soon drifted back to the servant who was now making her way around the floor of the entrance area with a broom. I typically recognized the voices of those who spoke to me, but this one I did not. I turned around quietly and peered inside to look at her more closely. She was young, perhaps year or two younger than myself at the time, and was likely the daughter of one of the older servants. Her long black hair created a wavy curtain over her face as she concentrated on the golden floor below her as if it were the only thing in all the realms that was of importance. Her hands were tiny and seemed frail; in fact, her entire body seemed too gentle, like perhaps she would break if she moved too suddenly. I quickly removed these thoughts from my mind and turned around to face the city once again.
She took perhaps half an hour after this before approaching me for a second time. "I have finished, prince Loki. Is everything in place as you desire?"
This time I faced her. In the second our eyes met, I noticed hers were a vivid blue, and the lights reflecting off of them made them almost seem to sparkle. How strange. She bowed her head quickly and stepped aside, making space for me to pass her. I walked inside and glanced around the room, not particularly caring about the job she had done. I waved a hand and walked over to my desk in one of the corners of the room, making sure she had not touched the piles of paper that had recently accumulated on its face. She had not, to my relief. These were of importance. "Yes, everything seems to be in order. You are dismissed."
