2005, New York - Manhattan

It was a nice late Saturday afternoon, and a seven year old Alec was coloring a drawing on top of the kitchen table while his mother, Alissa, prepared their dinner. The tv was on and it was playing a cartoon about a superhero who had telekinesis and was fighting a villain.

Alissa was humming lowly to a song on her head when suddenly her son called:

- Mom, mom, look! Things are flying! - he said, pointing at the pencils in the air.

When she turned around, she saw not only the pencils, but the microwave and some plates were levitating as well. She couldn't help the smile that lit up her face before she walked over her son and put both hands on his shoulders.

- You're just like mommy, sweetheart. - she hugged him tightly - You are special just like me.

Alissa Owens was a powerful mutant, a class 5 to be more specific, she could copy someone's mutation just by touching them; Alissa once was a member of the X-men but that was before her son was born. And that's why after celebrating with Alec, and serving his dinner, she called her longtime friend Charles Xavier and told him the news, that her son's mutation showed up at a rather early age but she couldn't help to be more proud. She even asked if she could enroll him to Xavier's school already, to which Charles replied that she should think more about it, but Alec would be welcome anytime.

Later that night, after putting Alec to sleep, she needed to have a serious conversation with his dad. Alissa wasn't embarrassed to say that Alec was the result of a one night stand, he was the best thing that ever happened on her life, she was embarrassed that Tony Stark didn't think like that. She wasn't complaining about him not being the best father ever, he would at least show up at Alec's birthday and some holidays, and he pays for everything so that's was good enough for her. Although she could tell that Tony loved his son, it was noticeable that Tony loved money much more.

But Alissa knew this moment would come, three years ago she had already told Tony about her being a mutant and right after threatened him to not tell anyone, the woman also explained that there were a chance of their son be born a mutant, so they were just waiting for it to happen.

She had to call Tony three times before he answered, sounding annoyed, although she could hear the loud music playing.

- Alissa? What do you want?

- It's important, Anthony, - she knew he hated to be called that - it's about Alec. - Alissa could hear the music getting more distant and quiet.

- What did he do? Is it about school? I was going to deal with that. - he sighed.

- What? What happened at school? - she asked confused.

- Um... nothing really, the headmaster was clearly overreacting. - no, he wasn't, one of the teachers found a pack of cigarettes on Alec's backpack on the day Tony dropped him off - So, what happened? is he sick? - Alissa only sighed before answering:

- Remember when I told you Alec could be a mutant? - Tony said "yeah" so she continued, smiling a little - Well, his powers manifested and we will need to put him in another school.

- Why would he need to change schools? Is it because you don't think he can live with normal kids? Y'know that's fucked up to say as a mutant, Alissa, our son is completely able to live a normal life-

- Tony, what the hell are you saying? - she rubbed her eyes with her fingers - Just shut up for a second. I wanna put him on a school for kids like him, so he can learn how to control his powers and not accidentally drop a chair into someone's head.
