"Mackenzie! Wake up! You're gonna be late for the field trip!"
Normally, Mackenzie Serket of Champion City would respond with an annoyed groan before getting out of bed. But today was different. Instead, she shot up and started doing everything as fast as she could.
"Coming Mom!"
To say she was excited would be an understatement to the highest degree. She was ecstatic, practically about to explode.
She nearly forgot her glasses!
Backtracking a bit to snatch her glasses, she ran downstairs and was greeted by the sight of her mother Autumn, her baby brother Marcus....
Wait, someone's missing. Oh no.
Before she could react, Mackenzie was caught in a headlock while being assaulted by the hellish scent of AXE Body Spray.
"Morning, Kenny!"
"Let me go, Leo!"
And that was none other than her annoying older brother Leonard Serket. Only one person was missing now.
"Where's Dad?"
There was the sound of keys jingling and then the sound of a door opening. He was here. Dad was here!
"Morning, everyone. Sorry I'm late. Supervillain messed up traffic. Thankfully Mister Magnificent stopped him."
"Dad!"
Before he could react, Kenneth Serket was enveloped in a huge hug by Mackenzie.
Kenneth snickered. "Hi Kenzie."
"Hi dad. What villain did he catch now?"
"Someone calling himself the Jack of Spades. Had playing cards for days. Could dice up a whole skyscraper. Lucky us that he cared more about putting on a show than not getting caught."
"Sounds like a villain of the week." Leonard said.
"Yeah, he does." Autumn nodded.
"Enough about me. What has you so worked up this morning? Only time I seen you this energetic was 'Take Your Kid to Work Day!'"
"Field trip." Mackenzie said in a matter-of-fact matter.
"They're going to a lab or something or something." Leonard said, which caused Mackenzie to lightly punch him in the shoulder.
"Not just any lab. This lab belongs to Dr. Raymond Garrett, esteemed geneticist!" Mackenzie yelled.
"You're only excited about the "geneticist" part because of superhero stuff!" Leonard yelled in retaliation.
Mackenzie opened her mouth to refute, but she couldn't. As much as a science nerd as she was, the main reason she was so excited to see this lab was because it was the exact type of lab where Peter Parker would become Spider-Man.
So, she just punched him in the shoulder.
"OW!"
"Ok, ok, no fighting before lunch." Autumn intervened. "Mac, have a fun time. And what's the Beryl family motto?"
"Arcum nulli! I know, Mom." With that, Mackenzie opened the door and bid her family farewell. "Bye!"
The walk to school had Mackenzie bouncing and dancing like she was at a party although there was no music. That's how excited she was.
When she got to her school, Cunningham High School, her excitement had not subsided in the slightest, although the sight of school would usually dampen her enthusiasm effortlessly.
