Mishti

"Mishtuu hurry up! You're already late! Do you want to start your first at college like this, getting late!? I want to see you at the dining table in 10 mins!"

I heard my Ma's shouting from downstairs, and she has a pretty good reason for it too. I was taking a bath for almost 45 mins and now I don't even know what I should wear now. Why am I like this?

I quickly did my daily skincare, and chose the safest option. A white short kurti with wide legged blue denims, applied some kajal and lip tint. Brushed my hair and left it open, wore the wrist watch and a ring, took my tote bag, applied my perfume, and tadaaa am ready, and that too in, I looked at my watch, 7 mins.

"Eshe gechi, eshe gechi, eshe gechi

"Eshe gechi, eshe gechi, eshe gechi. Ma taratari breakfast dao, I am already late." I said coming down the stairs, almost running through it.

(I came, I came, I came. Mom give me breakfast soon, I am already late.)

"Ei ne, taratari kha. You've to leave in 5 mins otherwise you'll get late" she served me my breakfast and I gobbled up my poha. After I was done with my breakfast, I took the blessings of Ma, my nani and God. And finally managed to leave for my college on time.

(You guys must be wondering what about my father? He and my Ma stays separate as they're not in good terms. So we've shifted to my nani's house.)
(nani: maternal grandmother)

After almost half an hour, I reached my college, paid the auto driver and moved towards the main gate. I looked at it, at my college, the place from where I am starting a new journey, the place where I'll make memories to cherish for life. With all the positivity I entered. And I heard some loud noises...like someone is..arguing?

"Shokal shokal jhogra? Ar kisher jonno? Shall I go and see what's happening?" I thought and went towards the direction from where the noise was coming.

(Who's quarelling now, at the morning? And for what?)

I noticed a group of boys harassing a girl, who was bravely standing her ground but clearly outnumbered. Feeling a surge of empathy, I decided to step in and offer my help, hoping to tip the situation in her favor.

"Hey what's happening here?" I asked and their attention shifted towards me.
They were those road-side rowdies, and were troubling a girl. God when will all these stop!?

One of the boy started talking, "Hey beautiful! Don't be sad, we'll give our attention to you too, afterall you're also as pretty as this baby doll" he said pointing the last two words towards that girl.

"Muh tod dungi agar ek aur gand baka toh. Chal hatt, chod mera raasta", the girl spoke.

(I will break your face if you utter any more trash. Go away! Leave my way!)
