Harry sat in a compartment with his brother and two other boys. He curiously watched as one of them began introducing themselves to Draco and Harry couldn't help but roll his eyes at the blondes false confidence.
After only 10 minutes the boys were talking as if they had always been the best of mates. If only Harry possessed that ability, to make friends or at least pretend to be friendly in order to gain people's trust.
This year was going to be rough without it.
Harry was becoming agitated and worried as he sat there staring out the window. With the two blokes already in the compartment when they arrived, he hadn't gotten a chance to tell Draco of the Dark Lords instructions. He couldn't very well just get placed into Gryffindor without telling Draco it wasn't his choice.
Harry must have dosed off while brooding over the situation, because suddenly he felt his body start to fall and he snapped his eyes open wide. Harry sat up fast as the train jerked to a stop. He heard his brothers laugh and turned towards him.
"Merlin Harry- put your wand away, we've just arrived." Draco said with a smile.
Harry looked down at his right hand that now held his wand. Quickly putting it back in his arm band as he stood. The two other boys were still in the compartment - much to Harry's dissapoinment - but once they had gotten their trunks off the ledge, they were leaving and Harry sighed in releif.
"Draco, I ne-"
"Come on Draco! They're telling all the first years to gather up in a group on the platform towards the front of the train!" The boy Draco had befriended earlier burst back through the compartment doors.
Harry narrowed his eyes menacingly towards the plump boy who had interrupted him. Draco turned to his brother with a wide grin, "Come on Harry! Let's go!" He grabbed Harry's arm and ran after the boy named Crabbe, a reluctant Harry being dragged behind him.
They joined the group of first years and Harry had never felt so uncomfortable. He found himself holding onto Dracos robe in an attempt to stay close as the boy kept moving around. Harry noticed all the rest of children were doing the same thing as, looking around and bumping into eachother as they enjoyed the general splender.
Harry had only ever been allowed to hang out with Draco and so he really didn't know how to act around kids his own age. He could face the cruelest of wizards in a duel and not bat an eye but the thought of small talk with an 11 year old struck an odd bit of fear inside of him.
He noticed there was a women standing in front of the wild group of children, Harry eyed her curiously.
"Settle down now children, settle down." Her voice was loud yet at the same time she wasn't yelling, everyone stopped what they were doing and gave her their full attention.
"Now then, I am professor Mcgonagall, the transfiguration teacher here at Hogwarts. I will be taking you into the great hall for your sorting and the opening feast, follow me and try not to dawdle." She swiftly turned and strode towards the large castle.
As the children started to follow her Harry began to get shoved and elbowed back away from his brother. He tightened his grip and stayed as close as he could. They entered the large doors and a round of oohs and ahhs echoed against the walls of the schools first hall way.
It wasn't anything too exciting, Harry thought. A large empty corridor, oh what beauty! Harry chuckled at himself, gaining an odd look from Draco.
With his brother staring at him, Harry's heart seemed too leap into his throat. He needed to tell Draco of the Dark Lords instructions before they entered the great hall. He grabbed the blondes arm when he turned to keep walking with the others. Draco turned to look at his twin with a perplexed expression but with one look at Harry's face he stayed put.
