Ever Higher

The last burning breath left their little selves,
A dawn of black to greet wailing mother,
Fatally far the awful sickness delved,
Til breath and heart stilled, draw not another.

Yet though all was lost it was not ended,
Far away there remained but one last task,
Upwards and away through clouds they wended,
To nevermore move, yet evermore laugh.

And laugh they did, in happiness at last,
Though know not their old names, gifted anew,
Free to fly away from their darkened past,
Those known as "Eve" and "Faerie" in the blue.

For them gladness, for others time doth heal,
Til life again on turn of the wheel.
