Takes place after Shifting Times

-----------

It had been a few months since Micchi had come out as being a trans girl. There had been quite a few ups and downs along the way, but things were mostly going well. She had supportive friends to help her whenever she needed it.

Takatora was supportive, but he still seemed to not exactly know what to do with her. He definitely hadn't been prepared for something like this to happen in his life but here they were. Micchi didn't mind the way the two of them were at this point in time. She knew that he was trying his best.

It was kind of funny how her coming out had fixed a bit of their strained relationship. Takatora had started making more time for her and was actually listening to her wants instead of insisting she follow his idealized life for her.

There was just one thing Micchi still wanted that hadn't happened yet. She had grown out her hair, though it didn't look that long yet. She had painted her nails and continued to do so. She wore more feminine clothes to a degree. But, she wanted a dress of her own. Not one that a friend gave her. One that she picked out her herself.

She had hesitated asking Takatora for one for a few reasons. She was afraid to go try on dresses when she still just looked like a boy. She didn't want to be harassed for just trying to be herself. And the second was that Takatora still seemed worried over her going out in overly feminine clothes. She understood his concern. He just didn't want her to get hurt by some asshole.

But, today, she was going to ask him. She had prepared for it. So, when he came home from work, she approached him to talk. She knew he was supposed to be off tomorrow, which meant he had no work-related excuse to give her.

"Nii-san, I have a question." Micchi said after a few minutes of small talk about their days.

"What is it?" Takatora asked.

"Well..." Micchi hesitated. "I... wanna buy a dress. I want one that's truly mine."

Takatora didn't respond right away. He was pondering his response. Micchi could tell from the look on his face. She waited anxiously for what he was going to say about it. Was he going to say no?

"If you insist, we can try and find you one tomorrow." Takatora finally responded.

Micchi's eyes went wide at the affirmative reply. "Really?!"

Takatora nodded. "If it will make you happy."

Micchi smiled and hugged him. "Thank you, nii-san!"

...

The next day, they went early to the mall. Takatora wanted to try and get there before too many people did. The less people around, the better it was going to be for them.

Micchi had started HRT, but it had only been two months. She knew she still looked and sounded quite masculine despite her bests efforts. Time would slowly change that, but for now she still had to deal with standing out when she did things like this. At least she knew Takatora would defend her if someone tried anything.

"I have no idea what you're looking for in a dress so this is all on you." Takatora said as they stood in front of a rack of dresses.

Micchi nodded and started scanning the rack. There were quite a few options to choose from just here. She did want to try and make this as quick of a trip as she could. The longer she stayed here, the worse her anxiety was getting. The longer she was here, the more likely someone might notice her and say something rude.

Her eyes fell onto a faded purple dress. She pulled it off the rack and looked at it. She liked the style it had. Would this work for her?

She held it up against her body. "What do you think of this one, nii-san?"

Takatora offered a shrug. "I don't know. Don't look at me for opinions."

Micchi cracked a smile and laughed a bit. "Can I try this on?"

"I'm not stopping you."

She went to a, thankfully empty, changing room and tried it on. She stared at herself in the mirror. She liked how it looked on her. She tried to imagine what she could look like in a few years as she stared in the mirror. Hopefully she would start looking more like she wanted to before long. The waiting was the hardest part. She wished she could just take a pill and then the next day everything was exactly as she wanted it to be. Instead, she had to wait for all of this stuff to start taking affect.

Micchi took it off and went back out. "I like this one. Can we get it?"

Takatora nodded. They made a quick trip to the checkout and were out of the store not long after. More and more people were starting to show up now. They had apparently gotten out just in time. Micchi didn't want to think what they might've encountered had they still be searching for a dress at this point. She knew how nasty some people could be to complete strangers.

"That was... scary." Micchi said quietly as they walked down the street.

"Thankfully no one bothered us. You did well to keep calm." Takatora replied.

"That lady at the register didn't seem like she liked me very much."

"Maybe she didn't, but at least she had enough sense to keep her opinions to herself."

"Yeah..." Micchi nodded. "Thank you, nii-san."

"If it makes you feel more comfortable in your skin, then I'll try to do what you need."

"Except give me opinions on my fashion style." Micchi teased.

"Why would you ask me for that? I'm not a girl, how should I know what looks good?" Takatora defended himself.

"You can't just say you like it?" Micchi fake pouted at him.

"Would you want me to?"

Micchi shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe. I'd like if you could give me something when I ask."

"I'll try."
