My Heroes

Living in rural Alabama, I grew up with special heroes. They influenced my decisions, ideas, and ultimately who I was. Nathan Bedford Forrest  taught me to be strong and fight for my beliefs. George Wallace's courage and bravery against tyranny made me stand up taller. Jefferson Davis's hard work and integrity reminded me to never back down in the face of adversity. All my idols made me proud of my Southern heritage and the rich history behind Alabama's rolling cotton fields- they made me proud of who I was.

However, my biggest hero was the man on my crucifix. Jesus Christ, the big dawg of Bethlehem. As a child sitting in a shiny pine pew at church listening to our choir sing praises of our Lord, my love for Jesus Christ began. How could one man be so amazing?

When I was lost, Jesus lit the path.

When I fell from grace, Jesus offered his forgiving hand.

When I had questions of who I was, Jesus told me who I was- a good, american Christian with Christian values.

Nathan Bedford Forrest, Jefferson Davis, and all my other heroes taught me how to be a good person. They go down in history as the best men of my time.

Jesus Christ however, taught me who I was. He goes down in my heart as the greatest man of all time.
