Aster closed his eyes and covered the sides of his skull due to the sudden loud sound. Was that a gunshot just now?
Then he would open his eyes. The blob in front of him would have a hole in it. Then it disintegrated. Several other gunshots rang out. Something — or SOMEONE was helping him.
Aster blinked several times before he came to the realization. "oh- oh my god! i'm still in one piece! hahaha!" But it was a short lived victory, as a blob would creep up to Aster — but he would swiftly thwack it with a bone. He'd had to find the person who was helping him.
Aster saw the bullets pierce through the blobs. They were yellow in color. Picking up his hat from the ground and putting it on, he'd continue to strike blows to blobs surrounding him, trying to make his way to the source of the gunshots.
"you.. things are extremely bothersome." The unfamiliar voice would say. They were still obscured by the giant blobs.
Aster would attempt to talk to the obscured person — "h-hello?! hey! thank you so much for helping! i was seriously about to die there-" Aster hit a blob that was about to bite him. "-and you really came in clutch."
It sounded like they were shocked to hear another voice, because the gunshots stopped for a second. But a sickening crunching sound followed after. They screamed in pain.
That sound sent shivers up Aster's spine. One of the blobs may have just gotten a hit on them. This just made Aster even more fired up. Aster dropped the bone he was holding and stomped on it, breaking it in two. He picked the two broken pieces up. They were now sharp.
Then he started to run towards where they were, slashing through the blobs that got into his way. He'd slide through one of the blobs while holding on to his hat so it doesn't fall off.
Only then he'd see the other person. It was another skeleton, just like him. He wore a long, dark-red scarf, cyan glasses that have been broken in half, and a torn blue jacket. The sight horrified him. Half of the other skeleton's skull was broken off. Blood was splattered everywhere. Grunting and panting, the other skeleton was trying to get up, clutching a bright-yellow gun on his left hand.
Before the blobs would catch up to them, Aster helped the other skeleton up. "oh my god, your.. your head." The skeleton would put his hand on his broken off skull, trying to confirm that it's really gone. "grrh.. you.. should get out of here. this is not your battle." The skeleton took a few steps away from Aster, trying to regain composure.
"what?!" Aster blurted out. "after you just saved my life? and with your.. skull broken off like that? no way, buddy." The skeleton glared at him. He looked like he was about to say something, but gave up. "..fine. don't get yourself killed." He reloaded the gun while he was speaking. It glistened with a yellow light. Aster observed that the other skeleton's eye was also glowing yellow. That gun must be made out of magic.
Then he proceeded to shoot at the blobs again. "damn, you're still going like that? you've got guts." Aster commented. The other skeleton looked annoyed. "run away or fight." He glared at Aster. "..right."
The gun-wielding skeleton made quick work of the blobs. It was clear he was an expert at gunslinging. Aster distracted the blobs away so the other skeleton would be able to shoot at it. One by one, they disintegrated. There was one left.
Aster waved his arms in the air to get its attention. "hey! oooveeer here!!" It worked. It was creeping up to Aster, and in one fell swoop, it was shot. All of the blobs were gone.
Aster looked at his surroundings. It was unbelievable! They really are all gone. And he's still in one piece. It couldn't have been done without that other skeleton's help. He faced to the direction where the other skeleton is. He was about to say thanks, but he saw him suddenly collapsing on the ground. The gun disappeared.
Aster immediately ran up to him. "oh no no no no, please don't be dead.." But he wasn't dusting. At least, assuming he was a monster like Aster. To his surprise, he is actually a monster. He could hear his SOUL beat slowly. He has just fainted. "thank god.. okay, okay, what do i..?" Aster glanced at his suitcase. It was still intact, thankfully. He remembered that he packed a first-aid kit.
He would pick the skeleton up, taking him into one of the homes. Then he'd put him on a bed. Aster then brought his suitcase inside. Then, he'd open it and take out the first-aid kit along with his lunch. Aster took out the bandages out of the kit and started to wrap the broken skull and arm around the skeleton.
Then, he'd put his lunch next to the bed. They were cinnamon bunnies, his favorite. Nice monsters that lived not too far away from the mansion sold these. They are home-made goodness. He took one for himself but left the rest for the skeleton. Then he sat down on a chair, waiting for him to wake up.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Less than an hour passes by. The skeleton opened his eye. His vision was blurry, and it was strange. He couldn't feel his other eye. He sat up and touched the bandages on his skull. "...so that really did happen.." he'd say under his breath.
Then he'd attempt to stand up, but fail to do so. Wincing, as that battle took a toll on him. So he just sat on the edge of the bed. He saw Aster fast asleep on the chair, then took a glance at the paper bag next to the bed. It smelt good. He hasn't ate in ages.
Eating them regained some of his lost HP. He felt better. Standing up, but struggling to walk straight he starts to walk out the front door. He didn't have the time to stay here and recover, even though he needs it. He didn't have the patience to do so.
He felt as if there was a pit in his SOUL. A big chunk of magic had disappeared. With the loss of his other eye, he couldn't do his magic abilities. His only way of fighting was to use his gun. He let out a deep sigh, as this will only slow him down.
Suddenly, Aster woke up from his sleep. "hurh? whag? whas.." he blurted out, and rubs his eyesockets. Aster blinked a couple of times and saw that the bed was empty. He stood up and walked through the house. "what the.. he's already gone..?-" Then he saw that the front door was open. The skeleton was standing there, fidgeting with something on his arm.
"hey! wait, where are you going?" Aster called out to the skeleton. "by the way, name's aster!"
The skeleton glanced back at him. "..thanks for the bandages and food." Then he looked away."but i have places to be. it's best if you just forget about me."
"..what? wait, where are you going? you can't go yet! look at your condition, man!" Aster reached out to the skeleton, but.. with a flash, he was gone.
Blink, blink. Aster had a puzzled yet disappointed look at his face. How did that skeleton just disappear as if he had one of his necklace? And he didn't even get to know his name.
"..hold on." He clutched his necklace and reached deep into his SOUL. Maybe, with the memory he'd had with him.. he could follow him.
Somehow, he felt himself call out a name. It was a name he didn't recognize. But.. suddenly, within the depths of his SOUL, something resonated. Everything flashed a bright yellow color. Magic swirled around him as he got transported.
