"Gabriella, what will you be when you grow up?" my mothers voice echoed through my head as I strode my bare apartments hallways. I never knew, I don't know. I want to do everything and nothing at the same time- but how could that be possible in the way of life here? The U.S.'s system doesn't accommodate for the need of artistic freedom, regardless of what type of art is being produced.
I want to be everywhere and nowhere, what's that movie called? Everything, Everywhere, All of the Time. That's exactly how I feel.I turn left into the kitchen, flicking the switch and adjusting to the yellow light that blinks a couple times before humming softly. It's easier to stay in a low-priced place out in the midwest, no matter how shitty, at least now I can afford rent unlike in college.
My hands slide over the cabinets, stopping when I get to my medication. I take each pill out, one by one, I take four in total. One for a thyroid condition, two for anxiety, and birth control. I grip them in my hands as I grab my water bottle. I take a swig and down the pills. Already feeling better. My eyes shift to the fridge, examining the boat tickets I bought; I was always told to get into the routine of adult life fast, to get adjusted as soon as possible and to forget anything about being a people pleaser. 'You won't make it if you can't stand your ground' is what dad said.
I've got an odd feeling about this boat trip.
