So that's pretty much the people and events around me. Oh! And me? Well...... I'm just a six year old who loves fun, adventures and stories. I'm a grade five schoolboy and I'm so in love with cheese and yeah! French fries.
Like I had said, Abby's getting her own room soon. Mom said she's growing up and till this moment , I still think mom made a mistake. Abby's just fourteen and she's not even a lady yet!. Oh well what do I care? As long as she gets a new room and there would be much space for Trip and I.
Mom called for dinner.
I left the painting of a lady who was supposed to be Mona Lisa and run into the kitchen.
"Scrambled eggs and bread" I said in surprise. We are eating a meal that looks fit for breakfast and that's what I like about it. I guess mom's too tired to cook real dinner.
My guess is, she must have been on the phone with Harry for too long her whole body must ache so bad.
Forgive me for being brutal. I never liked the guy....don't think I would. Ever. However, Trip seemed unhappy and I was thinking he didn't like the food or he had been involved in a fight at school.
After bed time story from the best storyteller in the world, I set myself to sleep.
"Close your eyes before you sleep" mom said.
I wanted to whisper: "Ofcourse Mom, how else would I sleep?". But the whisper of sleep was stronger.
The next few weeks were not so much fun. I mean who would be comfortable having another man coming around and doing stuffs that would make you call him " dad"? Bringing stuffed toys and chocolate bars just to "buy my affection" -
pfft!
Trip's birthday was during the autumn vacation and to his surprise, Harry bought him a video game console.
Picture me rolling my eyes with a scoff."It's the latest! Cool! Thanks Harry" Trip had said, while Harry had been grinning from ear to ear all along.
Trip was hugging the console and that had reminded me of how cute he had been before he started at the college.
I get scared of going to college because I think I might turn out to be as freaky as he is now. Is that what college does to kids? Now as Harry, walked in after kissing my mom and crouched to say "hello Tom" to me, I felt like punching his bony face, but I didn't. Instead I said "hi..... Harry"
I could smell his breath....not that it was bad- I just didn't like that he was so close to me. Unlike when Charlotte, my crush at school comes close to me to ask if a teacher's skirt were too short or if I had a spare pen. That was just magical.
Is that me being cheeky. Oh snap!Anyways, back to basics - I can tell my mom is going nuts (pardon me) about this guy but I still can't figure it out, it's not like he was as handsome as my dad. No offense....
My mom called us to her room after dinner tonight. Just as she and my dad had called us to their room to tell us about their divorce about a year ago. Dreadful. I don't even wanna talk about it.
Trip brushed me aside as I was about to open my the door. "Elders first bro. " He said and knocked. Inside mom's just rounding off a phone call so we had to wait.
"Hey kids, come join me on the bed" she says after hanging up. She is smiling but I think I could see the doubt in her eyes. She sat quietly for too long.
"Okay mom, you've got our attention?" I say impatiently.
" Oh sorry.... Well guys, we're moving to a new house..."
"What?" Trip dragged the 'what' with the same tune I've heard cool dudes say it when they are surprised. It's usually dragged long and goes like: wahhhhh.
".... In a new location" mom completed her statement.
"No friggin' way mom; that means changing school...friends- No!" Abby looks away.
I said nothing.
"C'mon Abby, it's your ticket to getting your own room and you too- Trip, and Tom" she tries to sound convincing.
"I want my room alright, but I thought we're gonna have it right here- in our house!" Abby replied almost angrily.
I thought about the perk of having my own room too. Yet I said nothing, I just stared.
"Trip??" My mom looks at her first child as if to ask for help - he was more grown up after all.
"Well," he started. "How bad could it be?"
"VERY.....bad Trip. You of all people know how challenging it is leaving old friends and making new ones. You had left grade school for college remember?" Abby said again.
I knew Trip didn't take the transition so well. And I'm pretty sure he remembers.I remained quiet.
"You kids can go now and sleep over it 'cuz with or without your interest we're moving. I wasn't asking you, I am simply informing you. Sorry kids, Harry bought the house for us and we can't just refuse it. It's just not done"
Abby's eyes widened... "HARRY!" She darted out of the room in anger.
"Seriously mom.... You had to mention" Trip said and semi bounced out- dude style.
"Tommy" she turned to me, her eyes pleading: Are you angry with me too? Don't you want your own room in a big house?
I blinked once, then again. Truth is, I don't even know if I was angry or just upset. I just didn't know.
So I said nothing and walked slowly out of the room.......
