lesson eight: be wary

Being a vampire sucked.

Metaphorically and literally.

Hyunjin had only been a vampire for a month and thirteen days but he decided it was awful and he would never be happy again for as long as his undead life continued.

"You're just whining because you haven't eaten in two days. You get dramatic when you're hungry." Seungmin stated, far too matter-of-fact for Hyunjin's liking.

"No, I'm whining, as you put it, because I can't go out into the sunlight and eat all my favorite foods, and this is the worst." Hyunjin huffed, flopped down on the couch and glaring at the insolent little human.

Seungmin glared back. Well. Not glared. That's just what his face did.

"Chill. Hyung will be back with more B positive and you'll hopefully get over this whiny drama queen act."

"I could rip your heart out."

"No you couldn't. You love me too much."

"Fuck you."

Their bickering tapered off. Hyunjin felt bad for his behavior and made his way over to Seungmin, sitting on the other side of the couch as an apology.

Okay so being a vampire wasn't that bad. He could smell more things, see tiny little details, he was evidently immortal until either someone killed him or he walked in the sun.

Ever since he was turned, he had been making Pro and Con lists in his head. The immortality was cool but he missed the sunshine. The blood drinking part sucked but at least he wouldn't have to experience eggplant again. The heightened senses were great. Like when Innie and Minnie came into the house smelling like that pretty human.

He was stronger, faster, all around just like his normal human self but better. He was only struggling with the concept of not actually being human. He didn't like it. He was painfully aware of it when Chan made him be around humans in the dead of night.

Chan had made the mistake of bringing Hyunjin to a night club, assuming that being around them more would be better for the new senses.

It was not. Hyunjin wasn't proud of it but he'll admit he cried. There were too many smells in the club, too many flashing lights. He had cowered behind Chan, overwhelmed with it all, until Changbin had encouraged them to go home.

It did help having the humans in the pack. Seungmin and Jisung were the first ones he saw after being turned, emerging from Chan's spooky basement ("For your safety and theirs, Jinnie.")

They smelled like Jeongin and Changbin. They were comforting, in a way, a reminder of what he once had. The vampires had almost panicked when Hyunjin fell to Seungmin's side, mouth open to catch more scent. They had figured Hyunjin hadn't figured out controlling his hunger. It wasn't hunger for food Hyunjin was feeling. It was hunger for a life he couldn't go back to.

He sighed again, laying his head on his arm on the sofa. Maybe he was just hungry. He always got a little wistful when his stomach started rumbling.

Chan came through the front door with an annoyed grunt. His arms were filled with an oversized cooler box, Changbin following behind him with Jisung under his arm.

"One of you could help me, you know that, right?" Chan muttered, gently setting the box on the coffee table. Hyunjin's nose twitched and he reached for it (Some might say he lunged. He did not. He was very graceful.) to get himself a snack.

Chan sighed heavily and pulled him away from the cooler box by dragging him into a side hug. Hyunjin could probably break away but he appreciated Chan's comfort. He didn't always like cuddling and contact like this but evidently he was 'bonded' to Chan by way of vampire sireship.
