Things had been weird lately. Billy was really irritable and no one knew why.
Well there was one obvious reason, his parents split up. His mother just left without any warning, obviously he was heartbroken. But there was something deeper than that bothering him, Ben could feel it. And that was a big deal, since he wasn't usually (if ever) the empathetic type.
"He's just been so distant from me lately, I don't know what's wrong with him." Sidney frowned, her grip on her backpack tightening as she walked along Benedict, both of them on their way to school.
"I don't know what to tell you Sid. He's always been weird like that, plus the whole thing with his mum..." He said with an exasperated sigh. It was hard to paint Billy in a good light when he was being a more of a dick than usual.
"I hopes he's alright... You don't think he'll break up with me do you?-" Sidney asked, and Benedict almost felt bad for her. She didn't deserve to be treated this way. It was unfair to her. Sadly, he couldn't bring himself to genuinely care, not as much as he should've anyhow. What was being done to her was wrong, and all he could think is;
So what?
"Break up with you? Please Sid! Billy's literally blessed to be around you!" The blonde girl, Tatum, exclaimed as she ran to catch up with them. "Hey Benny-Boo" she teased, reaching up and flicking his ear.
He laughed, more from habit rather than amusement and shooed her hand away "Hey Tate. How come Dewey's not driving you and you're walking with us peasants?" He said, gesturing toward himself and Sidney.
Tatum rolled her eyes and bumped him with her shoulder, causing him to stumble. "Well, someone graffitied the walls of the police station again and they're trying to figure out who. So he was busy, for your information."
Ben laughed and briefly looked down at his fingers which were completely coincidentally stained with paint, only at the very tip. Of course he had nothing to do with this, he would never deface government property.
Except he would.
And he did.
But no one else needed to know that.
Thankfully, Tatum's arrival spared Benedict of hearing Sidney's whining -sorry- complaining and he could just walk in peace. Billy had been a bit distant from him lately as well actually, but he'd noticed the same had been happening between Billy and Stu so he didn't question it and just figured that he'd talk to them when he was ready.
As they approached the school yard, he spotted Billy and Stu, looking deep in conversation about something, and jogged over to them. "What're you two bachelors talking about?" He joked, a smile creeping up his face.
Both of them looked surprised, they must've not seen him coming because they were just so focused on what they were talking about. They looked at eachother, as if conversing telepathically. Ben furrowed his eyebrows at this, they usually didn't keep secrets from him and this really felt like they were trying to keep a secret. Now that was weird.
Stu laughed at his expression and placed a hand on the curly-haired boys head, shaking the teen's head back and forth, much to Billy's amusement and Benedict's lack thereof. "We'll tell you at lunch. It's a big secret and we need time to discuss." The tall boy explained. Benedict was happy with that explanation and nodded, hitting Stu's hand off his head because he was getting dizzy.
Billy opened his mouth to say something, but spotted Sidney walking towards them. He scoffed as he turned back toward Stu and Benedict, before pushing past them and into the school.
