Part 1: A Silly Little Ball

Greetings dear readers,

I'm sure you all are aware as to what this little story is about so why don't we get straight to it shall we?

~~~
It was a day like any other. The sun shined and the hummingbirds hummed; something you'd expect on a sunny day in May. My parents had gone out for a few days to a gathering being held by one of their business friends while I had decided to stay behind since I had no reason to interact with the people my parents did business with since I was the second born in my family and was only 16 years of age. Although some might argue that it's a perfectly good age to be looking for a husband, I, Luna Beaumont, would much rather spend this time in learning more about the world around me. As of now, I was residing in my room, allowing Madam Beatrice, my caregiver, to style my hair as I was immersed deep in a book I was reading.
Ding dong.
The doorbell had rung. I diverted my attention from the page I was reading and glanced at Madam Beatrice. She understood immediately and gave a slight nod before leaving my chamber. As I waited for her to return, I reverted my attention to the novel in my hands. Only a few minutes had passed before a knock was heard on my door.
"Miss, may I enter?" came Madam Beatrice's familiar voice.
Putting aside my book, I turned towards the entrance to my bedroom.
"You may," I replied.
Madam Beatrice entered while her heels made a clicking sound as she walked. She held an envelope in between her fingers but I paid no mind to it, assuming that it was from my parents or perhaps my older brother, though the second choice was unlikely since my brother much preferred talking to someone face to face rather than on parchment. Madam Beatrice extended the envelope towards me so I could take it.
"This came for you, Miss."
I thanked her with a polite smile and examined the letter. Just as I had assumed, my parents had sent me this letter, well, more specifically my mother had. I carefully removed the wax that was sealing the envelope and opened the letter to read the contents lying inside. I skimmed over the words, gathering the main ideas present, and slammed the letter on my vanity table, startling my poor caregiver who was only trying to tidy up my room, even though it was relatively clean. I had a frantic look on my face. One glance and you could tell that I was indeed troubled. How could my parents do this to me! Madam Beatrice could tell that what I had read in the letter had troubled me greatly so she abandoned the area she was tidying up and walked over to where I was.
"Did something happen Miss?" Madam Beatrice said with a comforting tone.
Madam Beatrice had always been with me for as long as I could remember so I knew I could trust her. I nodded at her question and groaned in annoyance. I handed the envelope containing the letter back to Madam Beatrice so she could read the contents of the letter. She swiftly read the letter and glanced back at me.
"It's not all that bad, Miss. This could be a fun experience for you. Who knows, maybe you'll be able to make a few lifelong friends or perhaps even a partner?"
I groaned as she said the last part.
"Madam, you know I'd much rather be in my room reading or creating stories rather than socializing with others! Much less find a 'partner'!"
Madam Beatrice chuckled at my childish remark and gently placed the letter to the side of my vanity.
"I'm very much aware of that Miss but I'm advising you that it'll be a great experience for you to meet new people from around the world! And you haven't talked to anyone your age in so long. The last time you'd talked to someone around your age was at your Coming-of-Age Gala and that was months ago! You have to go, Miss! I won't allow it if you decide not to go."
Madam Beatrice had a determined look on her face and I didn't want to disappoint the woman who had basically raised me, so with a defeated expression, I did something I'd undoubtable regret in the future.
"All right, I suppose I'll go, but only because I know you'll keep nagging me if I don't"
Madam Beatrice had a proud expression which also made me produce a slight smile.
"That's great Miss! I'll get your gown ready right away!"
As Madam Beatrice hurriedly went, I sat in front of my vanity and began to question my life decisions. Oh god, why must I have to attend this Silly Little Ball?
Also I already have 789 words (without this Author's Note) but I'm planning on maybe doing it till like 2k words or somewhere close to that. Anyways I hope you guys enjoyed this part and I hope to see you again in the next! Peace out Lil Jays!
