Not what it seems

Something's gotta Change

On a daily basis , I wake up to my alarm going off insanely.

I change , brush my teeth , wash my face , do my makeup , cover up my old scars .

I look into the mirror , only to realize that I am in fact still not stisfied with what I see .

But today I hoped would be different , this school year wasn't going to be the same I could feel it .

My mother enters my room , she looks around until her eyes are set on me she smiled and speaks .

-Oh , Your up . Wake up your brother don't want to be late now do we ?- Said my mom with a smile on her face .

-Yeah , I'll wake him up . - i tell her finishing up my hair . I slide my hair curler inside my drawer . I pad accross the hallway , being careful to not wake my stepdad from his slumber . He slept in the living room just as i expected he would , sometimes arguin with my mom isn't the best idea.

As I reach my brothers bedroom I take a glance into the kitchen . I knock on his door several times until the 9 year old boy opens up .

-First day of school get dressed .- he sleepily nods , slowly closing the door , I stop it with my foot and poke my head inside the filthy room . I cringe at the smell wavering inside . He looks at me expecting something .

-Now .- I say .

-I will sheesh- he said with a roll of his eyes .

I move from his doorway and head back towards my room , when i enter I see the screen of my phone is lit indicating i have notifications waiting to be opened .

I sit on my bed and grab my phone off my nightstand , I unlock it and find i have a missed call and 1 message . Both from Elizabeth .

'yhu trynna' Light one Up befo' school 😜' -lizzy

'I've told yhu dozens of times I don't smoke and yhu know that 😒 .' -me

My message reads sent and I throw my phone back on top of my nightstand . I stare blankly at my walls . A couple seconds later my phone vibrates and I pick it back up .

'Don't shit on my fun Cheli 😴 , Sum's gotta' change this Year . Yhuu gotta' loosen up ma! ☺️' -lizzy

'Shit on yhur fun ? 😂 Kill me lizzy ! And last time i "loosened up my Mom grounded me 😊' -me

'I still can't believe she grouned yhu for sneaking out . 😐 But I'm serious ! yhu gotta loosen up Just Keep Yhur fuckin bussines low key 😈 ' -lizzy

'I love Yhu lizzy But I'm not planning on trying drugs anytime soon . 😕' -me

'Fine , I respect that ! no pressure , can we' atleast chill after school today ? ☺️' -lizzy

'Alright. 😁' -me

I grab my brown leather bag of the door hanger and slide my phone inside along with my chrger and head phones , finnaly I head out the door .

As I walk down the stairs of the deck my Mom calls after me .

-Rachel ! You didn't have breakfast , you don't want to start of you 7th grade year starving yourself do you ? -

-Mom , I'll be fine .- she looks at me with concern , i can see the hesitation in her eyes .

-Fine , I love you Cheli- she says smiling tenderly .

I smile intently and nod .

-I know you do.- I say trying to convince myself of it . How can she love me when not even I have love for my self ? .
