21) new coworker

this is my third year working at my local starbucks.

that may seem like a lot or a little, but i have the most seniority out of all my other co workers. i just love making coffees and it's really fun. i have such good friends here.

i walk into the break room and sit next to my best friend madisyn, who is also a barista. the store opens in an hour.

"maddie did you order our burgers yet?" i ask her.

"girl there's no time. we only have 30 minutes of break."

i groan, "but i don't want the food hereeeeee."

she laughs at me.

i settle on a bag of doritos on the counter.

"did you hear about the new employee coming later today?" she asks.

"huh? what new employee?"

"i don't know his name yet but he's been training with marilyn for like a few weeks now."

marilyn is our manager.

"do you know how old he is?" i ask with a mouthful.

"i'm not sure. but let's hope he's not a bitch like that aiden guy was."

"oh hell no."

we giggle together, and maddie steals my chips.

after our little break we got everything ready to open. then walked in a boy with fair hair, and light blue eyes.

"hey!" maddie exclaims, giving him a big wave.

"hello." he replies with a little grin.

he walks behind the counter and marilyn walks out from her room.

"nathan, good to see you!" marilyn says giving him a big hug.

she never hugs me like that. not that i'm jealous or anything.

"madisyn, y/n, this is nathan. he'll be working here from now on. i know you girls will be nothing but kind to him, so please do that."

"hi." i say.

he smiles at me.

marilyn hands him a green apron and he slides it on.

"i would tell you where everything is, but i think you've got that all down from our training. if you have any questions please ask these wonderful ladies. i have to go to a meeting, so i'll catch you guys later. bye!" marilyn says, walking out.

he gives everything a good look and smiles at us once more.

"so are you excited to work here?" maddie asks him.

"oh yeah. i love coffee and i love making it."

she nods, "and how old are you?"

"19. i'm turning 20 in a few months."

"nice, we're both 20."
