CHAPTER ONE

VANESSA'S bedroom door swung open, her curtains roughly opened. She groaned as she rolled over in her king size mattress.
Her adopted father, Richard Maxwell, chuckled at his daughters actions, doing her best to avoid school.

"I'm sick." She faked a cough "We had a barbecue yesterday." she removed the covers "And besides, don't you wanna see your friends.." He leaned on the doorway "Audrey?" The girl widened her eyes while staring at her father.

"W-What about her?" Richard chuckled "I've seen the looks you give her when I pick you up sometimes." She stood from the bed, searching through her draws for clothes.

"Well, you gonna do something about it?" Vanessa shook her head in refusal
Richard attached his sheriff badge to his shirt, chuckling to himself "Personally, I think you should." He smiled before leaving to wake her sister, Gabriela Pérez, these girls meant the world to the sheriff, their real father was horrible, being controlled and manipulated by him even abused. Richard knew he had to get them out of that environment fast, so he came to the decision of adoption.

Vanessa was putting her baggy red jumper over her head, she looked in the mirror and fixed her hair, once she was done her eyes stared at herself, mostly at her eyes.
Vanessa was born with Heterochromia, her right eye was brown and her left eye was a light green.

Her hand hovered over the eye contacts her real father had given her, she remembered his words "Put these on, that eye thing you have is hideous, sweetheart." She sighed before shoving them in her pocket and leaving her room.

She quickly walked downstairs and saw Mac Granger and Skylar Sutherland waiting in her living room, they were looking rather upset this morning, she saw Mac's phone clutched tightly in her hand, Skylar not smiling either and her father looking furious.

"I'm headed to the station." He kissed his daughters head before leaving "What's going on?" Mac stood "Look, Vanessa I know you like her, but please don't get mad." The tanned girl furrowed her brows in confusion, the blonde girl turned Mac's phone and showed a video recording that had been posted online of Audrey and another girl kissing in her car, nearly everyone had seen it.

"Who the fuck posted that?" Vanessa handed back the phone, she was furious. The girl had just been outed to the whole school, something she clearly didn't want getting out. Not like this anyway.

"I tried asking Jasper if he could help." Mac said as they left the house "But it was already taken down." Skylar ran a hand through her hair "I asked Noah, but he couldn't do anything about the shares, just about the main video posted." The three girls tried to think of ways to help but nothing came to mind.

As they arrived at school, they all had the same class with Mr. Branson, he kept talking on about movies which Vanessa never really payed attention to "Mac?" The brunette girl removed her head from her desk "Can you tell me what makes a horror movie?"

Mac never watched horror, she despises them. She was more of action, romantic comedy girl. If anyone was the horror geek in their group it was Vanessa Pérez. She sighed, racking her brain for something "Blood?"

"Just blood?" Branson chuckled, Vanessa saw how uncomfortable her friend was, if there was one thing Skylar and Vanessa knew about Mac, was that she hates being put on the spot in front of others.

"Yeah, just blood. You can add zombies and vampires or even a psychotic killer, but what all movies have in common? Blood." Vanessa cut in, smiling at her friend, Skylar slammed her hand on her desk "Fuck yes!" Her fingers pointed at Pérez.

Branson shot her a look for her language, while others just lightly laughed at her "Any comment, Foster?" She asked, the boy sitting two rows in front turned, shrugging his shoulders "Vanessa practically covered it." He said facing the front again.

Most people hated Noah Foster's rants about slasher movies, the truth is, Skylar Sutherland loved them, hell, she could even say she loved him. Skylar has dated many boys in the school. She even dated Jake before Riley got her hands on him. But all those boys had one thing in common that Skylar hated, they weren't the boy she had liked for three years.

The classroom door busting open knocked her out of her thoughts, she groaned and hid her face in her hands, her idiotic, one year older, big brother. Jayden Sutherland. He apologised to the door before doing the same with Branson. He went to his desk which was behind Vanessa.

He gave the girl a high five before sitting, these two had been friends since diapers. They were close, closer than Mac, Skylar and her were. They dated for a short while but Vanessa soon realised she likes girls more than guys, so, Jayden promised to help set her up with as many females as he could, he respected and helped her whatever she was going through, helped her find herself. He didn't even care about the break up.

"Found any girl yet?" He whispered as Vanessa gave him a thumbs down "Okay, got your eye on a girl yet?" Vanessa tried to secretly sneak a glance at Audrey Jensen, but that look failed "Holy shit! You like a taken girl?" Vanessa turned in her seat, shoving his shoulder.

"Clam down, I know you've liked her for a while, but she's taken, V." The girl sighed "That's what happens when you admire from afar and not do anything about it." Jayden rested his hand on her shoulder "Chin up, me and Mac have a bet that you definitely will end up together by some miracle."

Chin up.

That was their words to each other when the other was feeling down about something, nobody else told them this, just them telling each other. Vanessa was really grateful for a best friend like Jayden Sutherland, yeah, maybe he was a bit hyperactive or sarcastic majority of his time but he was still a good friend to have.

"Jayden, so glad you could join us ten minutes late." Branson leaned on his desk, giving a short lasting glare at the boy "Oh, it's no problem, sir!" He gave him a thumbs up and the teacher proceeded with the lesson. Jayden, Vanessa, Mac and Skylar never liked this class, there was something off about it, or something off about Mr. Branson.
