《Chapter 1》

I watch the blood as it skims over my knuckles, slides down my fingers and falls in little droplets from my fingertips. It taints the puddle of polluted water on the pavement; a deep rich red, creating ripples as it makes contact. The water refracts streaks of diluted rainbows from the oil sitting atop of it. Trust me to find beauty in the ugly things. I stomp directly in the puddle and keep walking while the rain continues to pool around my ankles. My all black sneakers are drenched but i trudge on, keeping my eyes trained on the dock ahead of me. Even from here i can see the buoy rocking in the river and hear the uneven crescendo of the water crashing against the dam. No one in their right mind would come out in this downpour. But then again im not in my right mind. Tentatively, i walk down the mossy steps to the dock. Each step making my heart rate increase exponentially as i get closer to the waters edge, where the tide has rose higher than usual. I crouch closer, reaching my hands in till theyre immersed in the river water. I scrub hard in an attempt to wash away the sins from my hands and yet the more i do so, the more i bleed.
